Autumn Hiking in Iowa
Autumn Hiking in Iowa, it is a gorgeous weekend for going on a hike in one of the beautiful state parks of Iowa. We have hiked this park so many times we know all the trails very well. But every time we still see something different.
From the beautiful tall pine trees nestled in among the maples and oak trees.
To gorgeous rock formations that you can walk under or over. Iowa isn’t just farm land.
The sun was shinning brightly on this cool morning of 35 degrees. I love going for walks in this type of weather.

Really relateble I just started my own travel blog and then covid hit and I could not travel anymore from my country. No travel planning for me at all 😦
Well, hopefully you can start again soon. It is fun to write a bit and share photos. 😊

Thank you very much. 😊💕
Sandra I have to admit your pictures a really good!
Thank you so much. 💕😊
I was born in Red Oak,we moved to PNW when I was young, and my family traveled back to Iowa (from Seattle) every summer to see grandparents for many years. I remember the Council Bluffs area almost as distinctly as my grandparent’s farm.
That is so interesting. I have been in Iowa for a few years now. It is such a pretty state.
These are very nice pictures. Such a fantastic place it is!

Gorgeous – the best of two seasons … the beauty of Fall and a touch of snow plus that ray of light peeking through on top of it.
Thank you Linda. 🙂

What a lovely setting for a walk..
It is such a pretty park Lisa, we go here quite often, especially this time of year. 🙂
A wonderful hike, Sandra. I love those rock formations.
Thank you Ellen, it is amazing to see all the rocks and cliffs right here in Iowa, we never get tired of hiking the trails.
Fall hikes are the best. Thanks for sharing. Allan
Yes they are, thank you Allan and have a great day.
Beautiful place Sandra. Those Autumn trees are a wonder on the eye.
Thank you Don, there were plenty of leaves blowing around on this hike, nothing like the smell of pine needles and leaves. 🙂
Wow Beautiful place
Thank you very much 🙂
😊🤗
Iowa’s beauty is underrated, I think, much like Nebraska’s, where I live. I always loved what I saw in Iowa, a great place to be and live I’m sure!
Thank you very much Doug, yes I was surprised also when I found this wonderful state park here in Iowa, I was always under the impression that Iowa only had corn fields. And then to find a park with caves and forest , it was a real treat. I have not been to Nebraska, I did live in Kansas for awhile and it has some wonderful state parks as well.
Yes, another under appreciated state! I have a friend from Maquoketa. He worked as an intern at the Hoover Library in West Branch while attending U of I. The Hoover Library is another worthwhile place to visit!
Isn’t that something, this park is Maquoketa Caves State Park, I forgot to put that in the post. Small world sometimes. 🙂
I wondered about that! That was the first place I thought about when I read your post. We have an Indian Cave State Park in the southeastern tip of Nebraska, too.

I love visiting parks with caves, I have gone through the whole cave here at Maquoketa once, it is a little unnerving when you get to the part where you can’t stand up. And it is so beautiful down there in the winter with the ice cycles everywhere.
Western South Dakota is full of caves you can visit. Wind Cave in Custer State Park (itself a worthwhile visit!) is a good one to visit.
I will add that to my list Doug, thank you 🙂
Gorgeous photos of fall colors in nature😃👍
Thank you very much, yes there were plenty of leaves falling and the wonderful smell of pine needles everywhere. Have a great day. 🙂
😃
Heartily agree. We hiked in Tennessee in September, Connecticut in October, and of course, in Ohio, when we are home.
Yes, this is the best time to go, no bugs and not very many people, the trails were very quiet on Friday, we like that. Thank you Marland.
You’re welcome!
Wonderful images and lights.
Thank you very much 🙂
You are wellcome 😊
I used to go hiking in Ames and enjoyed it so much… Those were the days .. Thanks for helping me remember those lovely days.. Great pictures.
You are very welcome, I have not been over to that area of Iowa much, Iowa has so many beautiful places. 🙂
Great picture. http://www.barfanibaba.com
Thank you 🙂
Nice!
Thank you Greg
Is the first picture of your posts always your favorite? Cause after months of enjoying your blog it seems that way to me. 🙂 I don’t always agree, I’m known to like the second or the third pic better, but this time we are in agreement. That first pic is so delicate. 💕 The way the sun shines over those tender leaves close to the forest floor….
Normally it is Jo, very observant. Yes the first and the last I try to put the photos that I worked on the composition more. For example the second photo looking up into the pine trees, I was just sitting in a chair looking up and took the photo, I like the color of the pine needles so high up above me. But I probably would not print that photo. So each post has both types of photos, one that I would print and put in a frame and others that just show the walk that I am on and some bright colors. Thank you Jo, it means a lot to me that you enjoy my photos. I always tell my husband what you say and what photos you like. He enjoys hearing that. Have a great day Jo.
I enjoy your blog a lot, that’s true. I often wish I were there, in your pictures, surrounded by all that beauty.
You are there in your spirit, I do the same thing when I see photos from other places. Places we can dream about but yet look through the eyes of the photographer, we can see things even better.
