We were sitting at a bird blind watching birds come and go, and all of a sudden this small group of Wax Wings flew in to get a drink of water. They are so colorful and yes waxy looking.
In fall these birds gather by the hundreds to eat berries, filling the air with their high, thin, whistles. In summer you’re as likely to find them flitting about over rivers in pursuit of flying insects, where they show off dazzling aeronautics for a forest bird.

Love the behavior shots and you even managed to get the red wax tips (per their name) in the shot – like the yellow crown of the butterbutts, it can be hard to get a picture of. On my classy list of birds (yes, I have lots of lists ha), the Cedar Waxwing is number 2 on the list with the Northern Pintail at the top and the Eastern Kingbird right after it. They all have sleek lines and I swear never a feather out of place.
They are so amazing looking, they flew in as a group, got some water and all left. Just lucky I was there I bet. I have to look up the Northern Pintail, the name alone sounds like it is a beauty.
