Watch Your Garden Grow, My two favorite things to grow and eat are blueberries and cabbage. Well, I like all vegetables and fruit. But this year I bought a couple blueberry plants, and the photos below shows some blueberries in their early development. Amazing how this green little flower will turn into a sweet blue berry.
This year my attempt at growing cabbage just might make it. I am not the best gardener, but I love trying every year. To grow your own food and be able to enjoy a meal from your hard work is so enjoyable to me. This is the start of a purple cabbage, as the inside leaves keep growing around each other to form a wonderful cabbage head, hopefully.
I often think when I see these plants growing, who was the first person that said, ” I will try it.”, 🤔

It is amazing how those little green buds become luscious-tasting blueberries. Better start looking for some recipes for those blueberries. I just read a post from a blogger who grows rhubarb in her yard and she made rhubarb muffins with them. My grandmother had a rhubarb patch for years, but never cooked with it. She’d take me out in the garden with her sharp knife and we’d get two stalks, come inside and rinse them with hot water and dip them into sugar. Tangy and tart and made your mouth pucker for sure.
I remember doing that as well. Everything taste better dipped in sugar. 🙂
Yes, it does – I liked it like that too. Very tangy and made your lips pucker up.

Blueberries are one of my favorites to grow too, Sandra. I live in Arkansas and we’ve had a lot of rain. It is probably why my berries seem larger than usual this year.
I did break down and buy two more plants this year. I used to have my entire garden surrounded by blueberries and some have died off. They are quite expensive to buy so I’m trying to propagate my own. I took cuttings about a month or so ago and used a rooting hormone to start them. The leaves on the cuttings are still green so I’m hopeful. If even 1/2 of them root I’ll be a happy camper.

That is good to hear Chris, yes these plants are expensive, I planted 2 last year and they are having a hard time growing it seems like so I bought a bigger plant this year. Next year I will try to take cuttings from it also. Hope it works for both of us.
Me too. I’m trying two different rooting hormones. One is a gel and the other is a liquid. I’ll try and remember to let you know if one works better for me than the other.

Looks like you are well on your way to a tasty blueberry crop. I’ve often wondered the same thing, who was the first person that said, ” I will try it.”, especially when I’m harvesting my Rhubarb knowing that the leaves are poisonous or picking out eggplant knowing it’s part of the nightshade family. Whoever they are I’m so grateful they took that first taste as I love the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables we get to enjoy with each season. May your garden provide a bountiful harvest this year.

Purple cabbage? It’s funny thing in Poland in some areas we call it blue cabbage and in others red cabbage. Purple is something between 😉

That is funny, I looked it up and I did see some were called red cabbage and purple and they looked similar in color. Either way, I sure do like it. 😊
