The Female Pine Grosbeak

The Female Pine Grosbeak

The Female Pine Grosbeak, I had just a couple more photos showing a little bit more of the female Pine Grosbeak, just as beautiful as the male, showing her golden crown and soft gray body.

Males are normally more colorful in the bird world. But I think the females have a softer beauty that makes them shine.

The Female Pine Grosbeak

So, as of this year I have photographed 3 of the 7 kinds of Grosbeaks.

Below is the Evening Grosbeak Male.

The other 4 Grosbeaks are;

  • Crimson Grosbeak – Found mostly in Mexico
  • Blue Grosbeak – Found in most area of the States
  • The Black Headed Grosbeak – Found mostly out west, Canada & Mexico
  • Yellow Grosbeak – Also found in Mexico

The 4 photos above, I just took off the internet, but someday I may take a photo of them myself. That is the fun part of Bird Photography, one just never knows what we will see when we stop to enjoy nature.

New Bird at the Feeder Today

New Bird at the Feeder Today, what a fun surprise when I looked out the window and saw this gorgeous color of pink and gold. I do love seeing new birds and finding out what they are. These are called Pine Grosbeaks.

The pink one is the male and the golden colors are the females. They are not known to be in my area, they are usually farther north and out west in the high mountains.

Despite its name, these birds prefer Spruce and Fir trees, not pine trees.

It is also absurdly tame, allowing very close approach; ironically, this sometimes makes it easy to overlook in dense coniferous forest, since it may sit motionless as a birder walks by. And these hardly moved when I went to fill the bird feeder. It was so exciting to be that close to them.

I have only seen them the one day. Hopefully they will come back for another visit this winter yet.

There are 87 Different Species of Kingfisher’s in the world and this one can fly about 36 miles per hour. Luckily I caught this one sitting down for a minute. And this is the first one I have ever seen. What a surprise to see it yesterday as we were out for a drive. This one is the Belted Kingfisher.

The Belted Kingfisher is one of the few bird species in which the female is more brightly colored than the male.

Now this is a new bird to me also, but with the help of other bloggers I discovered that it is a female Grosbeak, and with this species the male is way more colorful than the female.
