Smooth as Ice Landing
Smooth as Ice Landing, I do love the sun light on the wings of this goose as it is landing in front of me. As if a spot light was shinning right on it. These kind of photos make me smile. So many layers to a birds wings, you just don’t see it unless you can stop the motion with a photograph.
Now this is almost like a perfect landing, no pre splash on the water as they glide right on top before touching the water.
I have never seen a landing like this, the shot is like a micro second before they touch the water.
This photo below is usually the shots I get after they splash into the water.

Love the shots just before landing. Reminds me of a race.. sticking that neck out forward to get to the line first.. Didn’t make it tho.. 😉
I know, it so pretty how the splash of water is all around them, especially in slow motion.
Amazing – it looks like those two are walking on water and do they always stick out their tongue and hiss as they land? Beautiful photos Sandra – breathtaking shots.
Thank you Linda, sticking out there tongue must help them land.🙂
It helps with the concentration I guess … landing with a crowd of geese and synchronizing it perfectly takes some expertise!
There is no question these are great pictures but one of the funniest things I have ever seen is the gees landing on a frozen pond which they did not know was frozen. Let’s just say they lose all their grace and ended up in a twenty goose pile-up
All I am saying is Give Laughter a chance
I have yet to see that, I imagine it is like bowling balls. 🙂
They do They come in gracefully then hit the ice and fall all over themselves
That last photo is absolutely perfect!
No kidding! That goose looks so happy!
Thank you very much 🙂
The reflection of the geese as the glided on top of the water reminded me of your post “Reflection is the Change in Direction” so I went back and reread it and was completely blessed again by your words, “. . .Light would show us things we thought we would never see.” Have a wonderful day!
Thank you Beth, yes, we see so much more when we look beyond the flesh and see with our spirits. That is when I hear him speak to me.
Spectacular photos.
Thank you very much 🙂
Sandra, once again you blow my mind with your spectacular shots you “land”.
Thank you so much, I do appreciate that. I enjoy photographing birds so much, there is always something different to see.
Please welcome 🤠
No. Once again. Let’s go…ose.
Lol, 🙂
Let’s go…ode 😉
😊😂💕
Wow! What fantastic shots!
Thank you, Sandra. Have a great day.
Thank you Francine, 🙂 you to.
Perfect pilots and photographer 🙂
Thank you very much 🙂
Lovely photos with wonderful light and colors Sandra!
Thank you very much Jag. 🙂
That reminds me of “glassy water” landings with my float plane in NW Ontario.
Thank you Marland, I bet, there wasn’t even any wind drag that ruffled the water until it settled in. 🙂
👍
Nice shots! I love the last one – very cute. Looks like it’s shocked from the cold water!
Thank you Cheryl 🙂
They look like they are surfing. 🙂 Great timing!
The big kahona is hitting the North shore now…hang 10 🏄
Thank you Jo, 🙂
OMG Sandra after commenting to ya here I saw a V formation about 10 to15 K feet high and tracked them at 54 to 59 mile per hour in NE Tennessee (i used to work navel Aviation navigation in the 🇺🇸 USNavy)
That is so cool, I do love to watch them fly in their V formation, I will have a video coming up where it looked like they hit some turbulence as they were coming down, all of a sudden they lost formation and were all over the place. And thank you for your service in the Navy, our son is in the Air Force, he just got shipped to Italy.
Thank your son for his service 🇺🇸 Geese look crazy spreading out looking for predators before they land ❗️
I saw a sizable gaggle of geese the other day in the San Lorenzo River, a stop on their southern migration. Beautiful birds.
Thank you Robert, they really are beautiful birds.
Back then the Mounties would buzz the river in fighter jets to spook the rest to fly south after so they would not die on the on the -30° Saskatchewan River 🇨🇦
That would be something to see, I noticed that in Iowa here. A lot of geese stay for the winters, the winters are a bit more mild here in the mid west than what they used to be.
I lived in Boone for 15yrs ( near Ames) And many geese died every year cuz they wouldn’t fly south ❗️ Living on hog confinement ponds but 10°to-5° got them bad and no one wanted to shoot or eat them living in pig waste❗️
I can understand that. 🙂
Ouch I used to hunt them in Saskatawn in the late ’60’s and swore If I ever went back to bring a camera video and leave the 12 gauge shotgun at home
Well, there are lots of geese that is for sure. And they look pretty plain at times, but to catch them landing or flying really shows the beauty of those giant wings.🙂
Great landing shots. One evening at dusk a couple of Canadian Geese came in for a splash landing in the Rio Grande. The water was shallow so they just stuck in the mud instead of sliding in the water. It was hilarious. Too bad I didn’t have video rolling.
That would have been so funny, I have seen the Egrets kind of do that around here when the water is low.🙂
