I Found an Eagles Nest

I Found an Eagles Nest

I Found an Eagles Nest, I went down to the river a couple weeks ago, sitting here by the river just enjoying the quiet morning. Then I headed down to the little island I go to quite often to see if there were any birds hanging out.

But first I saw these beauties doing a little fishing, yep, there are a few pelicans still hanging around. They don’t want to go to Florida just yet.

The leaves were starting to fall here on this little island when I looked up and saw these two Eagles and a nest. It isn’t the best picture because it was pretty cloudy out and they are a little to far away. But, how exciting to see a nest here on the river. I have not seen one nest here in all the years I have been watching the Eagles.

Now this is to Wayne, I am guessing this might be the female, but it is not a good angle to really see the size of the beak. If you want to see more Eagles and Bears check out Wayne’s blog; Tofino Photography Here. He knows a lot about Eagles and has some beautiful photos also.

And now today I saw this younger Eagle, which might be the young one hatched by the two above from last year. I will be checking in on this duo all winter.

  1. What a lucky find Sandra and you thought the pelicans were gone for the Winter – the weather has been warm enough to stick around a while longer. The eagles were a lucky find too … this was a relaxing day first, then a successful day second.

    1. You are very welcome Maria, I will enjoy checking in on these guys this winter. We usually get a few dozen Eagles around here in the winter, these are the first ones to arrive.

  2. the deciduous have decided to show you what was in behind eh. Finding a eagles nest is always exciting! There may of been a study in your area of the active/inactive nests? You could go seek out others as well.
I cannot tell for sure about that adult but I’m leaning towards a male but the immature is defiantly a female.
Seeing a nest in this area means the environment is healthy! If there were no fish, there would be no eagles.
Great find Sandra! You get your eagle wings pin!

    1. Thank you very much Wayne, it is so exciting. I have a spot picked out by a tree where I set my chair and have my camera and watch them. One of them landed today near the nest and it had a fish. It came from the west, so I am guessing it goes down by the lock and dams to fish.

    1. Thank you, I know, I am excited to have spotted it. It was pretty well hidden until the leaves dropped. That is when I finally saw it.

  3. How exciting for you! It’s so wonderful how their numbers have recovered from their depleted populations beginning early last century. A symbolic sign of hope ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you, yes I will be checking in on them from time to time this winter. They have a nice private spot for their nest. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. A perfect example of why, when we can (any many right now assuredly cannot) taking time to contemplate the beautify of God’s creation all around us is so rewarding. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    1. Yes, I have been watching Eagles here on the Mississippi river for years and this is the first nest I have found. And they have there own private little island so no one will bother them, just need binoculars to see them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thank you for the update on the pelicans, Sandra! The river is bountiful and they feed a lot before the long flight. 17th Chapter on the Pterodactyls’ adventure. Blessings to you and your family!
