Flower Garden

Flower Garden – Well I planted lots of flowers two months ago and they are in full bloom. So many wonderful colors and I am happy to say the hummingbirds are still here. They appear to be having a blast going to all the flowers and chasing each other.

I have two flower gardens that way the hummingbirds have plenty of room to check out all the flowers.

  1. Beautiful! One of the many things I love about Zinnias is the variety of colors, sizes and petal numbering they come in. For the last several years, I’ve added some new zinnia seeds while allowing the previous years Zinnias to re-seed themselves. It is so much fun to see what comes up in the subsequent seasons. My bed of brilliant red zinnias planted new last year came up a beautiful rusty orange-red this year.

    1. I was wondering if they would reseed themselves. This is the best crop of them I had and I was planning on leaving them for the winter. The birds love going under them on a hot day.

      1. Do! The winter birds will use the dried stalks as a place of refuge when the snows come. In the spring, I simply chop the stalks with my hoe and turn the soil. Your reseeded Zinnias will be the first to pop their heads up. I add new seed once I see how many have replanted.

  2. The flowers are beautiful in these photos Sandra. No wonder the hummingbirds are happy to sip and stay a while. Soon they’ll be headed to warmer climates to sip awhile there.

  3. Beautiful pictures, Sandra. Thanks. It must be great seeing all that hummingbird activity going on. I’m sure they appreciate it.

    1. It has been a wonderful summer with my gardening this year. Not only pleasing to the eye with all the colors. But to see the birds and the bees get to enjoy all of this is truly amazing to witness. Thank you RJ.
