What Do You Do in -18 Degree F

What Do You Do in -18 Degree F, Well a lot of people are experiencing cold weather this week. For me as well, when I woke up this morning to minus 18 degrees F and windy. But the sun is out, so I have to go outside. Why you might ask? (video below)

A friend of mine from the blog post; WALKIN’, WRITIN’, WIT & WHIMSY, Told me about freezing Soap Bubbles in cold weather. So I had to give it a try.

Every bubble is different just like every snow flake is different. It was so much fun, my camera would start to malfunction after awhile, as well as my fingers. But, like a kid, I would go warm up and go back and do more.

There are a lot of different recipes for making the bubble mixture, if you don’t have the bubble stuff most children have on hand for summer fun. I used 3 cups of water, 1 cup of dish soap and 1 tbl corn syrup. The sugar is what helps form the crystals and helps the bubble to last longer.

It was windy out so mine kept popping as you can see in the video.

  1. Loved your photos of the frozen soap bubbles. Will have to try the soap bubbles in the frigid cold. Yesterday it was -25 F at night but warmed up in the day. When it gets really cold, I like to throw a boiling cup of water in the air and watch nothing come down to the ground. Happy Spring Time! ⛄️

    1. Thank you very much, yes I wanted to try the boiling water thing. But it was so cold to do that. My fingers were freezing making the bubbles.

    1. If the wind doesn’t get them they will set for quite awhile. It was really fun even in negative degree numbers.😊

  2. Fortunately, while chilly and cold, our winters are milder than yours so I stay inside to read blogs by more adventurous people in much more frozen climates. Gorgeous pictures. We will hit the mid 40s today.

    1. 🙂 I hear you. The sun was out so that helped in the really cold temps. I am looking forward to the 40’s now. 🙂

  3. Sandra – I loved the beauty of the photos of these delicate bubbles that you have created; watching the video on how you made the bubbles and how they faltered and burst was interesting and fun to watch. Your funny sound effects at each burst bubble made it even better. You gave new meaning to the expression “I hate to burst your bubble.” Thank you also for the shout-out to my blog where coincidentally I also wrote about the cold weather, though not as cold as you are dealing with.

  4. Wonderful Sandra! -18° F is really cold, good for making icy bubbles! Here it’s a bit too warm, only – 9° C.

    1. Thank you Jag, yes I tried it a couple weeks ago when it was to warm also. But when I saw the negative numbers coming I knew it would be a good time to try it again. 🙂
