Train Tracks Moving

Train Tracks Moving up and down as this train passed us at a crossing. I have never noticed this happening before. We were parked at the crosswalk as this train went by and it was a very long train, so we were looking at the tracks right in front of us and that is when I noticed them moving up and down.

I don’t know if that is normal or not. I would assume there has to be some movement from the weight of the train. Fascinating things we see when we stop and look really close at what is in front of us. 🙂

  1. That is amazing – all that weight on the tracks I guess. As long as it stays on the tracks and doesn’t tip over, especially if it’s carrying hazardous chemicals.

  2. I don’t remember when I first noticed that, but I did, a number of years ago. It was one of those “hmmm . . .” moments of life.

  3. Flexing rails are normal, under the immense weight of the train. If the rail bed developed a soft spot and the is a great deal of flex that wouldn’t be good. Wonderful train spotting photos.

    1. Thank you Tim, I was wondering about that. I could not find any information on it. I have never even noticed it before, this was a long train and I just started watching the track.
