The Desert Quails, if you want to see quails the desert is the place to go. I have been seeing two main species. The Scale Quail and the Gambles Quail.

The Gambel’s quail is named in honor of William Gambel, a 19th-century naturalist and explorer of the Southwestern United States.

My first sighting of the scale quail, good naming for this bird. They run around on the ground like the gambles quail, so fast.
Isn’t that just like a squirrel, Stealing the quail’s food. Once again the birds lose!

Yes, you have sure lucked out with your birds Sandra. I saw a Pied-billed Grebe today at Lake Erie Metropark. It was fairly close to the shoreline and I thought “great – something new!” Then it went underwater and when it surfaced was very far away and kept going underwater. Oh well, but it was a first.
