The Dance of the Hummingbirds

The Dance of the Hummingbirds

The Dance of the Hummingbirds, as the sun was setting last night the hummingbirds became very active. I watched them as they flew back and forth, chasing each other from one corner of the porch to the other. But it appeared more like a dance as they hovered in mid air and then flew off together.

I got my camera out and pulled up a chair below the feeder. They became silhouettes in front of me as the sun glowed on the clouds behind them. A put a video down below so you can see the; Dance of the Hummingbirds.

  1. They sure are animated Sandra and the one way out in left field, hung out there a while before getting his turn at the feeder. I am so disappointed my hummingbird feeding did not take off and I blame the weather for a lot of the problem, maybe next year.

    1. They are so much fun to watch, yes I bet the weather has something to do with it. You had so many storms there this summer. They stay in the trees with weather like that I bet.

      1. I think you’re right about the weather doing my hummingbird feeding in and I filled the feeder with fresh sugar water then it would rain and dilute it or be too hot. Someone recommended putting a baffle over the feeder to avoid the rain diluting it, so I’ll have to see what I can rig up … I don’t think I’ll put it back out this season.

  2. My girls and I just watched an incredible documentary by PBS, which is available online, called “Super Hummingbirds.” It has given us a much greater understanding and appreciation of the ruby throats that live in our tree line and visit our feeder and flowers.

    1. I will look that one up Beth. I went to a I max theater years ago playing a movie about them as well. Amazing what they go through, such a long travel for such a tiny bird. My husband and I were just talking about the creation of such a little thing. How tiny its heart must be but yet it has more energy than most birds.

  3. These hummingbirds are very entertaining. I remember having breakfast in Bocas del Toro, Panama, and on the terrace was a feeder where these strange birds came to feed one after the other. Very entertaining.
