Shades of Winter Blues

Shades of Winter Blues

Shades of Winter Blues, there are so many shades of blue in the winter. Blue happens to be my favorite color and then green. Must be why I like the forest, lakes and oceans. Amazing how each season has an abundance of color for our eyes to see.

Blue is the rarest color in nature and most often not the result of pigment. Most things in the natural world that appear blue come from the refracting of light through structures designed to reflect this color.

  1. Beautiful pictures Sandra. I just heard on the radio today that the blue ice at the Big Mac bridge is stunning this year due to the recent cold … they said the sun, blue sky and prism effect and the ice which has no bubbles in it is causing this beautiful sight and prettier this year than post they said.

      1. I wonder if people come from out of state to see the blue-colored ice at the Big Mac bridge? I know I often see the big lighthouse that is covered in ice (St. Joseph North Pier in Lake Michigan) … I’ve never seen ice like that before and people often take photos of that in Winter.

  2. Beautiful. Reminds me of a regional saying that God must be a Tarheel because the sky is Carolina Blue (I’m not from NC so it’s a saying I’ve heard rather than one I affirm.)

  3. Beautiful pictures, Sandra. We were talking about the fence around the ducks’ island last year. Is it still there or they took it off?

    1. Thank you Jo, yes the fence is still there. This photo was taken before they had put that fence up. When the island was so pretty. I came across this photo and decided to use it again. The island is not that pretty anymore, they even cut that tree down that hangs over the water. It was so pretty before they messed with it.

        1. I would Jo, but I have moved away from that area. I am not sure if I will be back to that town. I saw it last fall, and they had chased all the geese away. The island was overgrown with weeds and it looked like a muddy mess. It used to be so much fun to sit by the pond and watch the birds. 😊
