Memories of the Farm
Memories of the Farm, We went for a drive the other day. The sun was out and the chickadees were singing on this beautiful February Morning. I grew up on a farm and raised horses for many years. One of the things I like to see in the country is the old red barns.
We came across this one covered in snow. I can just picture, back in the day when this old barn was new. Painted a beautiful red, oh how it must have stood out when the snow blanketed the roof top.
I had a barn just like this one. The same shape and red, mine faced the sun just as this one is. I used to open up the big hay loft door that you see in this photo above the ground, I would open it up on a sunny day in winter and sit on the edge and enjoy the warmth of the sun caressing my skin.
These are the days I remember the most, living the simple life, enjoying the little things. I still enjoy doing the same thing, except now I sit on my porch, still facing the sun and just listening to the sounds of nature.
Living each day in the moment, for our days go by so fast. My photos remind me of wonderful days gone by and also remind me that the best moments in life are now, for tomorrow we do not know.

I like the blog very much it is just awesome for more https://gobookmart.com/
I like to see rustic barns when going for a drive in the country too. I can’t say I’ve seen one with snow on it like here though. The chickadee is very sweet. I really like the last paragraph of this post Sandra – especially in a topsy-turvy year like we just had (and pretty much continue to have), it is especially appropriate.
Thank you Linda π
I love barns. There’s a certain feeling of tranquility and peace that goes with them. I’ve never owned a barn but always admire them. Beautiful post!
Thank you Maria π
I too love old barn pictures and photos and have a number in our house. They always convey a good message.
Yes, they don’t make them like that anymore. π
your photographs give a feeling of peace.
Thank you very much π

I too had horses for many years – thereβs something very special about them. And I loved being around them even down to the mucking out! My sister used to call me a muck heap philosopher π. And those barns. Wow! Our neighbour is building one very similar – though their design is more Dutch or German in origin I think.
Me to Clive, when I was very young my mother would give me an option, help clean in the house or go clean the horse barn. I practically ran out of the house. π
Great memories. For me Barns have always been a place of mystery. So many stories, animals and work to be done. Such beautiful old structures
Take time to Laugh. It’s worth it
That is it Mr.Ohh, they were built with a purpose and beautiful as well. π
Thank you for sharing such lovely memories. As you described your barn I could almost catch a whiff of that uniquely wonderful barn smell of hay, straw, and horses.
That is the best smell Beth, that is it exactly. Horses, hay, and the leather from saddles and such. π
I love old barns. Thank you for these photos!
You are very welcome Emilie.
Nice to find something that takes you back in time. Memories become more and more iimportant as we get older.
Yes they do, I love it when I see something that triggers a memory. π Have a great day

I too love old barns, I have many memories around them from my childhood, I was just looking at one online the other day that was round and really intrigued me. That’s great that you found one that looks like yours and shared it. Got people thinking.
Thank you, I sure enjoyed that old barn, I had horses in it and so many fun memories of being in the barn in the winter with all my horses. π

Wonderful post. You just gotta love barns, old country churches, covered bridges, and wooded grave yards with lots of history.
Yes all of those. They don’t make them like that anymore.
Lovely barn
I love these old barns. And you philosophy!
Thanks, Sandra. Have a nice day.
Thank you very much Francine, you to π
Thank you for sharing a cherished memory!
Beautiful shots Sandra, with lovely nostalgia for you.
Thank you very much π
It looks so peaceful. I could be happy there… for a while. π
It was in such a beautiful area. I love looking at farms when out for a drive.
Thank you Sandra. There is a time when it appears life will go on forever. There is also a time when it is difficult to fathom how it all went by so quickly. The people who built that barn are of a different time already gone. Memories of past generations are forgotten.
Those who understand the fleeting nature of life in this world when young try much harder to plan for eternity. They procure the benefit of looking back on life from the future.
Blessings to you.
Thank you very much RJ, beautifully said.
