Having problems commenting on your post with the gull question, will try here as I think this post is letting me comment.
Thanks for the wonderful shout-out Sandra! Would probably need a side shot of the head to give you a 100% ID on the gull you had a question on, but the best way to tell between the Bonaparte’s and the Laughing in breeding plumage is the bill. This one appears to have a darker bill instead of the red of the typical Laughing. With the relative dark underwings with the leading white edging puts me in the Bonaparte’s camp. If you have any other shots that show the bill coloring you should be able to assure yourself. Is this your first Sanderling with all your traveling?
I will look for that. It was so early in the morning so the photo was bad. But I noticed the all black head and I have never seen that before. The bill through me off in that photo. I could not find a bird like that in my book. Yes, the first sanderling, I just call the little ones all plover, until I start getting better photos so I can identify them better. 😊

Got to love the pelicans. They are beautiful and funny at the same time.
