Those Red-Winged Blackbirds are beautiful but that beak is lethal! I’ve stopped them at the Park trying to steal a Robin’s eggs, then babies. And the Robin mom returned and chased him far away. I also saw a Red-Winged Blackbird attack a goose. These are great photos showing him giving the others the business!
I have only seen them out in the country before, this is the first time I have seen them at a feeder and lots of them at times.
They like peanuts – sometimes they sit in a tree and come closer if they see me handing out peanuts. They’ll come down to the ground if I toss them there. This morning I had a female Red-Winged Blackbird. First time for that as it is usually just the males who fly down to eat peanuts
I learned not to mess with Red Wings years ago when I walked close to a tree with a nest. The Male Screamed and chased me away for a ways.

Full colonels are called Bird Colonels because they wear eagles as their insignia. With his two stripes, this one is only a bird corporal. 🙂 Just enough authority to be bossy.
