Eastern Kingbird
Eastern Kingbird — when I’m traveling through the southern waterways, it’s easy to focus on the larger “water birds” and overlook the smaller species tucked into the landscape.
This one seemed to follow us as we moved through the nature preserve, part of the flycatcher family and constantly in motion. For just a brief moment, it paused on a thin twig right beside the road.

The light was perfect — the sun at my back — and I waited for it to turn just enough to catch that glint in its eye. That small spark of reflected light that can elevate a photo, adding life, depth, and expression to an otherwise still moment.
