Why Arizona

Why Arizona

Why Arizona – Let me rephrase, these photos today were taken around the small town named Why. Just north of the Organ Pipe National Monument in southern Arizona.

This is my first time seeing the Saguaro Cactus and there are so many of them in this area. When we got to this area we were going to camp at Organ Pipe, but it was dry camping there, meaning no electricity or water and it was 90 plus degrees F when we arrived.

But we found this campground in the little town of Why, full hookups so we could use the air-conditioning. They also have lots of trails behind the campground that you can hike all day on.

  1. That is hot, but at least you did not have the horrible humidity that saps your strength. Look how they thrive, big and tall, with little water and a scorching sun.

  2. I like the desert beauty for only short periods as contrast to forested areas. Oregon has that contrast I found the west coast compared to the east side of the state is immense. But there is no denying the sunset and I have always enjoyed cacti. Many neighbors have cacti that bloom in their yard with yellow flowers. Plus it is biblical so I wonder if that is why I like cacti blooming in the desert.

    1. I agree David. I sure have enjoyed seeing all the different cactus and landscapes in the sw, but I have to admit I like the forested green grass more.

            1. It is, I don’t do much outside when it is high humidity. I did like the dry heat in Texas but when we got farther west it was so dry that my skin felt like it wad cracking. Almost hard to breath.

          1. I think this convo indpired a dream about going to a foresty area. It was in drought… very dry and not green. But I remember the massive tree stumps from tuen of the century logging. And when taking pics I even remembered the internet phrase “banana for scale” and had one attached to a 30′ diameter fallen tree – so big that the banana couldn’t be seen in the pic. Allvery amusing to the awake me!

  3. “Where in Arizona did you go?”
    “Why.”
“I’m just curious, that’s all. So, where did you go?”
    “Why.”
You see where this could become a problem?

  4. I spent a lot of time in Arizona in the 80’s and 90’s, thank you for rekindling my fascination!

    1. You are very welcome, this was my first time to Arizona, it is so beautiful and so many different types of landscapes.

    1. No, we were back there in April when we were traveling across Arizona, heading to Montana, this was our last stop in Arizona and then we headed north.

      1. OK, I had thought you were already gone. But I thought maybe you had come back. If you get down in this area next year, I’d love to have a chance to meet you. One blogger to another!

  5. Been there several times on our way to Mexico, and as usual, I love your photos.
