White Tailed Deer

White Tailed Deer

White Tailed Deer – Wildlife has been very scarce this year. Normally there are over a dozen deer around here and this year I have seen 2 adult female deer. This one has a fawn running around, I have seen it a couple of times, still has its spots on it.

But it is just starting to come out of the woods with mom, so hopefully I will get a few photos of the fawn soon to share here.

  1. I love the video! I was waiting for the deer to brace itself on the birdbath to reach the feeder. I am surprised the birdbath didn’t topple over. I had to smile when the birdseed came down on its back … I was thinking a thought bubble would say “oops, I guess I messed up a little!” Poor deer was hungry. I like the music for yesterday’s night sky/Milky Way and today’s deer video. What are the spots on its back – just from a shadow from leaves?

    1. They are so fun to watch Linda, I actually raised that feeder up another 2 feet and she was trying to reach that the other day, she was close. So now the birds have a chance to eat the food there. Yes, those are just shadows from the leaves around it on her back.

      1. She is persistent! I thought it might be mud splatters on her back too. A friend in New York lives on the fringe of a wooded area and the deer walk into her yard and help themselves to the bird seed, tipping the feeder over the same way as you showed us. They munch her hostas and go to the berry bushes and strip the berries off, then lay in the shade for a nap afterward. Nervy!!

  2. I had no idea deer eat bird feed. Found out when they destroyed my feeder. Now, I leave veggies where they can readily get at them. Not supposed to feed them, but I like having them visit.

  3. That’s how the deer in our back yard usually try to empty my feeders. Or reach the last berries hanging on the lower branches. Do they know there are bears around also? 😉

    1. Yes, I just raised that feeder a couple more feet and she just barely reaches it now, but she keeps trying. I would think they know, they are always looking around and all of a sudden they will take off running.

      1. They adapt very well. Wildlife interactions could make great photos. Feeder Wars!

  4. This year we have had a surprising number of twin fawns – not sure what is up with that, but so cute to see the mom keeping watch over them. A bit bittesweet, love to see them every morning, but then I look over at my landscaping and sigh – good with the bad I guess. Good luck on getting shots of your fawn.

    1. Yes, the last few years I have seen twins as well. Next month is deer hunting so the moms eating my bird seed might not be back.

    1. That is what I do Kellye, my computer is right by the window and many times I have to grab the camera and go out on the porch and hours later I come back in. 😊

  5. Me too, I had deer standing up and emptying the bird feeder – I suspected that it has been the racoon and was very surprised to find out that it has been a deer.
