Unique Yet Beautiful Little Critters

Unique Yet Beautiful Little Critters, does anyone else have these little butterflies. There are hundreds and hundreds of them here. I have found out they are called Skipper Butterfly’s. A body of a moth and wings of a butterfly. My cat enjoys trying to catch them though.

I finally got a photo of this dragon fly here, he has a blueish tint to him. Now, I could not find the exact name for this one, considering there are over 5000 different species of dragon flies. I will just call him the blue one.

Dragonflies get categorized as beneficial insects because they eat so many harmful insects such as mosquitoes, gnats, ants termites, along with other insects and arachnids.

Sight is the dragonfly’s most important sense. Each eye can contain up to 30,000 tiny lenses. That I find to be extremely unique.

The wings of dragonflies are mainly composed of veins and membranes, a typical nanocomposite material. The veins and membranes have a complex design within the wing that makes them able to fly like helicopters. In any direction they want to go. Amazing and unique are the little critters of the world.

Have a Great Weekend

  1. Those are unique butterflies Sandra – I’ve heard of Skipper Butterflies but never saw a picture of them. Your dragonfly pictures are so close-up. The gossamer wings and coloring really stand out in the photographs.

    1. Thank you Linda, there are hundreds of those skippers around here. I have never seen this many before.

      1. Sandra – I hope to see one some day. I saw my first butterfly this year, a Cabbage White this morning on some Milkweed at the Park.
It seems strange to be this far into such a hot Summer without seeing butterflies here.

  2. Your skippers certainly seem drawn to that bloom. Does a grouping of butterflies have a name like flock, gaggle, herd? We have field skippers which are docile and get along with the other butterflies, but we also have Silver Spotted skippers which are feisty and chase away any other butterfly or bee that tries to share its flower.

    1. I am not sure what a group of them are called. These are pretty friendly, they land anywhere they can even on people .

  3. Thanks Sandra. Dragonflies have such an intricate design and are such unique flyers. I don’t recall seeing them in such depth. Your photos have captured what most of us never see or take the time to see. This is more astonishing evidence of a Master Divine Creator. Blessings to you

    1. Thank you very much RJ, yes photography has opened up a new world for me, wanting to photograph all of our Fathers creations up close when I can, it is truly amazing, the intricate details, the purpose for every thing under the sun. Have a wonderful day. 🙂

    1. Thank you very much, this is the first photos I have taken of a dragon fly, they are always moving. 😊

    1. You are very welcome Steve, yes, when we can see the intricate details in such small creatures. It makes me stop and look at everything even closer.

  4. Yes we have them, but not so many at a time, just one or two. I low them, because they usually are easy to capture. Your picture is wonderful, and your pictures of the dragonflies also.

  5. I agree, The photos give additional evidence to a Divine Creator whose detail from the minute structure of living organisms to the expanse of the galaxies in the universe are beyond human comprehension. Nice post, Sandra.
