Two of My Favorite Large Birds
Two of My Favorite Large Birds, The Raven and The Bald Eagle. I actually witnessed this weekend an Eagle flying by my place and two Ravens were pestering him as he was flying by. The ravens stay around my place so it must be their territory. I would have thought, the eagle being so much bigger, that they would fly away from him.

Interesting Sandra and the first shot of the Bald Eagle, it appears he/she has a look of disdain for the Ravens … he is saying “they are lesser beings than I and they torment me this way?”
I know, that look is perfect as he sits high above looking at them. 🙂
Yes, like a king!
I’m extremely happy to see Bald Eagles doing so well again. We have at least one nesting pair soaring around over Norris Lake. Love to see them.
Me to DC, They are such a magnificent bird.
The are so beautiful
Thank you Seraja 🙂
Your welcome sweetie 😍
Fabulous captures, Sandra, especially the Eagle landing. Size often does not matter in the territorial dispute—always interesting to observe these behaviors.
All of them, really stunning.
Thank you very much 🙂
☺🌕
The bald eagle is my fav bird too! Lovely pics ❤️💕
Thank you very much. 😊
I bet those Ravens are nesting right now? Eagles are harassed by just about everything out there that flies!
Smaller birds are far more manueverble then the large eagles. Plus they only attack the back not the front where those talons and beak are!
I was wondering why the eagle would put up with that. And now that you mentioned it, the ravens were staying behind him.
Crows play a game,I call it “Let’s make the Turkey MOVE”!
They see a eagle and will perch beside it but one will fly high above it and dive! It’ll dive at it’s back trying to get it’s talons into it’s backside! The eagle will use it’s wings as a shield as its mostly feathers!
Once that Crow is tired it’ll perch and one of the other resting Crows will tag team.
The objective of course is to bother it enough to make it fly away!
They are smart birds, will any bird try to mess with an eagle on a nest? Or will the second eagle of a nesting pair chase off all intruders?
someone once told me they heard of a Raven raiding a eagles nest for the eggs but I find that hard to believe?
One or both are always on the nest or very close. The eggs need a constant temperature and will lose moisture If left alone.
Nothing could get close to a eagles nest as they are always very close by and If any bird did try It most likely would be their last try.
Great pictures. The Eagle looks annoyed in one picture and has his talons forward in another. Ravens can be very bossy.
Yes, those talons are impressive to me, those eagles and the ravens are such strong birds.
Impressive birds, beautiful photos.
Thanks, Sandra, have a wonderful day.
You are very welcome Francine, have a great day also..
Perfect shot!
Beautiful birds!
Thank you, 😊
Great captures but the last one I like the most. This photo shows the power of the eagle very well.
Thank you, yes, they are such a beautiful bird. I love the look in their eyes.
My favorite of these two is the raven.
Thank you Sherry, Ravens are gorgeous birds and so smart.
Cheeky Ravens! Don’t they know that the Bald Eagle is the symbol of the US? 🙂
😊 I was surprised to see them do that. The Eagle just moved on, he probably was not in the mood to tangle with those two.
Beautiful
We have one of the world’s largest bald eagle populations where I live… so eagles all the time and I’m still surprised that the small birds will chase them off. I’ve even seen a small group of little little birds heckle them off. It’s pretty cool.
I know, you would think the little birds would stay away. It is good to see so many eagles again. Their are plenty of them down here also.
Eagles! And they’re real!
Yes, 😊
Sorry… I’m trying to make that an inside joke to my readers. 😛 Read my 6/1/1996 post for context.
I will check it out Greg.
I read your article and now it makes sense. The sheep are real. 😊
