Tiny Birds With a Touch of Color

Tiny Birds With a Touch of Color, here are 3 more birds I was able to add to my list. Thanks to the Merlin app to help me identify them. Sometimes these little brown birds all look like sparrows until you spot just that little bit of color that sets them apart from the rest.

I am not an expert on finding the names of these birds. So if it is not the right name, feel free to add what you know it to be.

  1. I am guilty of lumping small brown birds into the “Sparrow” category. Looking closely at your birds in this post, I can see how they are all unique.

      1. Sometimes they call sparrows “The Brown Bombers” … they are very territorial. The used to take over all the birdhouses Marge put out for the wrens.

    1. So true, I have a large yellow butterfly around here. I walked out to the garden without a camera and there it sat, nice and still. Went back and got my camera and now it is on hyper speed.

  2. Their graceful lines and curves … so beautifully captured by your lens. As if they’re posing for you. Thank you for sharing. πŸ™‚

  3. The excellent photos are a big aid to getting the ID’s right! In the field, these could be tantalizingly difficult because birds, well, don’t just sit here till you see field marks that cinch the ID! I enjoy your blog for the photo and your comments, too, of course.

    1. So true Doug, before this app that I use now, I had such a hard time finding a name for these little birds. I enjoy using this Merlin app, it is helping me to actually find more birds, especially when using the sound ID. I always enjoy hearing from you as well. Thank you Doug.

  4. Great spotting Sandra, with some lovely little birds. Here in Oz we call them LBJs (Little Brown Jobs) when we can’t discriminate their ID.

      1. These apps are great for identifying and learning about our birds. I have a very good one for our Aussie birds and it has the various calls, locations pic’s features etc also. A 90 year old border told us about it in our early days.
