The Trumpeter Swan

The Trumpeter Swan

The Trumpeter Swan – There are 6 swans species and I have photographed two of them. This one here being the trumpeter swan.

I went for years never seeing a swan anywhere, but now do to conservation efforts these swans have been taken off of the endangered species list and are found in many states including Iowa. Where I photographed these here.

I added the snow effect on this bottom photo.

This photo below has a soft white vignette.

This photo below has some sparkling water effects around the swans. I do like this one below.

  1. Those Trumpeter Swans photos are fabulous Sandra – they put my pair of Trumpeter Swans from Monday to shame. Where in the world has the Trumpeter Swan been feeding that its neck and head is so filthy. Digging up a lot of aquatic plants, with tail feathers in the air while dabbling I guess. 🙂

    1. They almost always look dirty like that. This one was in a small pond and I have seen them on the Mississippi river where they are all muddy looking as well.

      1. Amazing since most of the time they look so perfect in pictures. I saw a photo today of the Mute Swan that was tagged (M011) and I saw her at Council Point Park and wrote two posts about her. I follow a photography site on Facebook where photographers (mostly birders) post pics from various Metroparks in SE Michigan (we have 13) and there was a photo of her today … that neckband was so tight it appeared it would have choked her and I got a message on my post many months later from someone (a person in the sciences field) asking me to help them get the band off. It was not a SPAM comment, but a request for help – I said I couldn’t help them. They were afraid she would choke.

  2. I absolutely love photographing Swans. They are so pretty and don’t tend to mind my presence as they are gliding by me. The snow effect is cute!

    1. They are gorgeous, there is one pair of them up in Northern Michigan who have stuck around after there was ice on the lake. I could hardly believe my eyes when they were still there that late in the season.

    1. Oh you would love it. I have seen photos from others that have dozens of them in a lake. That would be quite impressive I am sure to see that. I am happy just to see 2 at a time.

  3. Very creative applications to good photography, Sandra. Thank you. I always like the close-up views you provide in which one sees so much more detail than otherwise. The snow effect looks real. Good touch.
