The Sky’s the Limit

The Sky’s the Limit

The Sky’s the Limit, normally it does not work to take photos with a clear blue sky background. Most photographers like to have some clouds or something in the background. But, depending on the subject, I kind of like the blue background. It can really highlight the subject like a bird.

The first two photos are similar in color with two different birds, grayish birds on a gray post. Photographed in two different areas. I thought it was interesting how they look similar. The first bird is a Curved billed thrasher and the second one is a Mocking Bird.

Plus photographing birds in flight against a blue sky can bring out the detail in the feathers in flight at the right angle.

  1. I definitely prefer a bit of texture in the sky/background, but you are correct, a basic blue backdrop will get you nice detail in the bird and does force the viewers eye to where you want it. I really like how the tones in the birds mimic those in the post.

  2. Beautiful – I like the sky when is clear as a bell and I think it does highlight the bird more. Sky does not even look real because it is flawless.

  3. you are right on the blue sky as a background. The details are sharp and the photographed object stands out perfectly against the sky.

  4. 💜 Ummm, a “background” is a “background” SupaSoulSis; is it NOT!!! and very beautiful pic 📸 BTW (By The Way) 🤔 ?

    1. Thank you, I do like blue backgrounds, especially with a subject like these where they don’t have a lot of color. 🙂

  5. Love the blue background, Sandra. Thank you. It has been said that blue is God’s favorite color. Blue evokes peace and tranquility. I associate blue with God’s mercy. Blessings

    1. Yes, it is my favorite color, I feel peace when sitting out in nature or even in my backyard and the sky is nothing but blue. It could not be a more perfect color for the sky.

  6. The blue sky is such a blessing to us photographers with no diffused back-lighting Sandra, and you have some beautiful pics to prove. I was only saying to my wife yesterday how lovely blue a winter sky is, without the summer haze.

    1. Under expose normally by 1 or 2 stops if possible. Just to keep the nice blue color and depending on the subject of flying or still.
