The Longest Squirrel Tail
The Longest Squirrel Tail I have ever seen. We camped at a spot in Illinois and went for a walk through this park that had the nicest trail. I looked up and there sat this squirrel with the longest tail I have ever seen on a squirrel.
I have never seen one quite like this, the squirrel looks normal and that tail has to be 3 times longer then a regular squirrels tail.
This photo below is one I took many years ago, he was a regular in my back yard and I named it Mittens because of the white feet. It has a normal length tail for a squirrel.
This is a Red Squirrel
Below is a White Red Squirrel I photographed last year.
The Giant Rock Squirrel below, it is the biggest of the squirrel family found in Texas.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Squirrels!!! How many of them did you eat? 🤣😎🙃
I always think of you when I am photographing squirrels. 😊😊
Since there is no Aesop fables or Beatrix Potter book about a squirrel that’s vain about its tail, I’ll assume he handles his noteworthy tail with humility. I do wonder how the extra length affects his life- balance, avoiding predators etc.
Yes, I was wondering that as well Beth, I watched for awhile to see if he would move. I wanted to note if its tail was able to curl up at all. But he just say there longer then I had patience for. 🙂
Wow, that is the longest squirrel tail I’ve ever seen. The squirrel better watch itself – someone might try to nab it for a fur collar on a coat. Just kidding. We had a squirrel at the Park and he was missing half of his tail. I called him Stubby. I have not seen him in a few years now … he sure was identifiable and I wondered if he was in an accident, chased by a predator.
It sure is unique 😊
Does a long tail on a squirrel send the same message to the females as big feet on a man?! ;-)) LOL!
That squirrel is a fashion designer… Tail extensions are not cheap. Squirrel Weekly Magazine interviewed that squirrel and it is a very well known designer. All the other squirrel are envious.
I bet they are, that is quite the extension for sure. 😊
😁😍
That is a long tail! Great shots, my friend.
Thank you so much. Sometimes there are more squirrels then birds. 😊
That’s just nuts! (pun on squirrels and nuts) It must take forever to get ready in the morning. Nice assortment of squirrels.
😆
Thank you Brad, it sure is a unique looking squirrel.
Those tails… it’s just nuts!
Lol, it really is. 😊
👍💚💚
Thank you very much 😊

Thank you very much Francine 😊😊
Never seen a white “red squirel” or a “rock squirel”, thanks for showing them. We have mostly the red ones in Belgium.
Yes, those rocks squirrels are mostly out in the deserts out west and they are so big. They don’t really look like a squirrel much.
Once had a friend who made outfits for a squirrel he called Alice. Alice had her own room in this gigantic Passdena CA house that was on the Rose Parade route. He fashioned outfits for her, complete with accessories, that she would allow him to dress her in and take her picture. Alice had hats, glasses, and the best haute couture to be found in Squirrel Land! That white red squirrel reminded me of her.
I have met people that have squirrels as pets. Those must have made for some cute photos dressing it up 🙂
Oh my goodness…
What a wonderful showcase of squirrels Sandra. I did not realize there are so many species. They are such cute little creatures.
Yes, I have seen many different kinds of squirrels over the years. I believe the little red squirrel is my favorite.
Love squirrels, and yes, wow to that long tail.. lol, I’ve never seen that long either x
I could not find if it is a specific squirrel to that area or just a unique one with a long tail. 🙂
Maybe just a unique little squirrel Sandra . Beautiful find none the less xx
Very true. He might be one of a kind.
👍
The squirrel’s tail helps the animal to balance, when leaping from one tree to another.
Yes, there is definitely a purpose for their beautiful tails.
💛
Thank you 🙂
