The Horse of Course

The Horse of Course

The Horse of Course, the Paint Horse.  A horse of a breed that combines the conformational characteristics of a western stock horse with a pinto spotting pattern of white and dark coat colors.

My family raised pinto horses when I was young. We had a lot of them. I was given my very own horse at the age of 12. Let me tell you, those days with my very own horse were the best days of my young life.

I did not have time for shopping, boys or anything else really. It was just me and my horse riding the trails for hours on end. I guess that is where I get my love for the outdoors and animals as well.

Back in the day when the weekends would roll around, our mother gave me two choices. I either help clean the house or go shovel manure in the barn. I spent all day out in that barn. 🙂

  1. Such nice memories and I would take that option too Sandra. This is a beautiful animal you have captured in this photo and painting.

  2. Sounds like you and my wife have a similar fondness for the long legged ones – she used to teach horseback riding for the Girls Scounts – I on the other hand want no part of those crazy beasts and she’s held a grudge over me ever since we married as I wouldn’t let her get her own horse – she can have all the toy poodles she wants ha.

    1. lol, yep. It is a girls best friend at times. Nothing like having a horse, but expensive to have now a days. I raised draft horses when I got older. They are so much calmer then regular horses 🙂

  3. Looks a lot like my mare. Even to the black bridle and conches. Wish I could share a picture.

  4. Beautiful!!! I feel for the kids that didn’t have a horse when they were growing up. I bought my very own when I was 13. Had a few more over the years but never a paint.

    1. Thank you Sandy, yes I have always loved horses and had them for many years. Such a beautiful animal. To this day I would rather clean a barn. 😊
