State Birds

State Birds

State Birds, I mentioned a few days ago that we are doing some traveling this winter, trying to avoid winter. But it caught up to us, some snow and lots of ice that many people are experiencing here in the states.

But, during this ice storm as we are hunkered down in our RV, I had a wonderful surprise this morning as I open the shade on my window and saw these beautiful cardinals sitting in a tree. I have not seen a cardinal in months and let me tell you, they are wearing their brightest feathers this month.

Below I picked a couple of my favorite cardinal photos from last summer. I also decided to try and take a picture of every state bird as we travel. Some I have already taken in other areas, but I will list them as we go.

The Cardinal is a state bird to; Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and West Virginia.

    1. We had 2 nights under 20 degrees, the second night the water pump froze. We put a electric space heater in the compartment about 3 am and by noon it was thawed out. So luckily no lines froze or burst. If it happens again we will put the heater in there right away.

      1. The cardinals are so cheery, all year around, with their plumage and I like their birdsong/tweets they make too. You really had to have clothes for multiple seasons – who knew you’d get such cold weather.

  1. Stunning shots!! Such beautiful little birds, love the vibrant colour of their plumage. Welcome dash of colour in a snowy landscape I bet.

  2. Beautiful winter (and previous) captures of the Cardinal! I knew about Ohio, but was surprised to learn that its’ the state bird in seven states. I wonder if it holds the ‘most states’ record? Thanks for sharing, Sandra ~ have a great day 🙂

      1. Very nice ~ I’ve always enjoyed the Cardinal, especially when visiting grandparents in Ohio as a youth. Thanks for that, Sandra 😎

  3. Thanks Sandra. Great shots. Cardinals are true “stand out” birds. Beautiful. Was thinking about y’all today and the weather. Hope you have power. Blessings

    1. Thank you RJ, yes we are at a campsite with electricity so it is plenty warm inside. This weekend it will be warming back up to melt all the ice.
