Ships and Tour Boats
Ships and Tour Boats – It is December all ready, time goes so fast.
More boats and ships passing through the locks.

- Average transit time:
- Typically, it takes about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for a ship to pass through the locks from start to finish.
- Details of the process:
- Ships first queue if traffic is heavy. Waiting times can be several hours to even a full day in peak shipping season.
- Once in the lock chamber, the filling or emptying of water to match the upstream or downstream level takes roughly 15–20 minutes per lock.
- Maneuvering in and out, securing the ship, and safety checks add additional time.
- Factors affecting time:
- Ship size: Larger freighters may take longer to secure.
- Weather: Ice in winter or strong winds can slow operations.
- Traffic volume: Summer months are the busiest, especially for iron ore and coal shipments.
So, while the actual lock passage is under 2 hours, including waiting and docking, a ship could take several hours total from approaching to leaving the locks.

Scratch cards are such a fun, quick thrill! Seeing platforms like bf777 legit offer easy deposits (even with GCash!) makes trying new games so much simpler. Secure gaming is a big plus too! 👍
Interesting read! Understanding player tendencies is key, and a smooth platform helps. I’ve heard good things about the ease of use with the jlph63 app, especially for localized payments – crucial for staying focused on the game!
Scratch cards always feel like a little burst of optimism, don’t they? It’s fun to dream big! I saw aaaaph offers a ton of games, plus easy mobile deposits – perfect for a quick bit of fun! 🎉
Two hours is a long time, but at least it gives the freighter’s crew a little break – they probably all watch the transit the first time and it becomes old hat to them after awhile, … or maybe not, since it is amazing how the process works.
I always thought the overall process could be improved while watching boats pass through the Mississippi locks…but then one day I got the opportunity to see them pull one of the lock doors out for repair…definitely more force on them than I ever expected
Yes, amazing engineering for this entire thing..

Interesting. Do they ever put 2 smaller boats in the lock to save time? 🤣😎🙃
Yes, they actually do. A couple tour boats were in there one trip.
