She Blends Right In

She Blends Right In, there is a small lake in the campground we are at which is the home to this one alligator. When the sun is shinning in the late evenings, it blends right in to its surroundings as the cover photo. This is our first sighting of an alligator.

They are such a strange looking animal, I was wondering what they eat, especially in this small isolated pond. There are lots of turtles swimming all around it. So I am guessing if it is hungry enough that would make a meal.

There is a board walk over looking the pond, that is where I am standing looking down on it. I will put photos on tomorrow of the pond itself. The reflections are mezmerizing in the late afternoons.

  1. I love the photos. My ex-wife’s family would vacation at a condo resort every summer, and there were alligators living in the surrounding water. They would come right up behind the condos and sit in the yard. Whenever I went up there with them, I’d take my morning coffee by the screen door and watch them from only a few feet away. Beautiful creatures.

    1. They are such interesting animals. This is my first sighting of one, it was fun to see it so close as well. There is just one at this particular pond. We walk down there almost daily and it is like his own little spot. πŸ™‚

    1. I was wondering that Ted, this is my first time seeing an alligator, it is a small lake/pond. Others are saying there are baby alligators in the pond as well. Occasionally I see what looks like little eyes and a tiny nose pop up out of the water, but it disappears just as fast. So I am not sure what that is. There are a lot of turtles in the water with her. I think people feed her because she comes right up to the dock when we stand there. 😊

      1. If there are babies you will hear them before you see them. They actually chirp, almost like a bird. The eyes might be turtles if no chirping.

If there are babies they will be close to mom. Alligators protect their young for 3 years.

I suggest no feeding of gators, here it is a big fine and the Alligator is destroyed. Feeding is the primary reason an Alligator becomes aggressive towards people.

        1. Thank you for this information. I will listen for that. Yes, there are signs every where to not feed them. I will tell others that if I need to. One gentlemen we met at the dock said he used to bring his grandchildren down there to feed them breadcrumbs, until they put the signs up.

  2. That’s a beauty – they definitely feast on turtles – on feeding day you can often hear them crunching through the turtle shells with their powerful jaws (well closing, not so strong opening).

      1. Not the smartest of creatures in the pond for sure … although I have photographed a lot of birds riding on the backs of gators so I am not sure who is braver (or dumber) ha!

  3. Fantastic shots. The blue of the water beckons β€œjump in”; the alligator beckons β€œI dare you” πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—πŸ˜Š

  4. The blue of the water is amazing. And the last picture… so funny. It looks like the alligator swims on the sky. πŸ™‚
