Red Bellied Sap Sucker
Red Bellied Sap Sucker, this colorful bird I photographed when I was out west. I have not taken many bird photos this past summer after we got home. We were to busy preparing for winter and just enjoying being home and not moving.
I can’t wait to start photographing wildlife again, I just haven’t seen much the last few weeks. A lot of beautiful landscapes for now.

I would have mistaken this for a red-headed woodpecker thanks for the clarifacation 🤣😎🙃
You are very welcome Mr. Ohh, yes it is very similar, a bit smaller bird but the nice red head feathers. 😊
Pretty little guy?
So colorful ! ❤️❤️❤️
It was a surprise to see this one, it was out west so I had never heard of it before. 🙂
Hey, lovely photography. How do you find out its names? Do you do any research?
Thank you, yes I have a bird identification book, and you can find anything in it. 😊
Thanks Sandra. Great pictures. That is such a clear close up of a bird most never see in its element in the wild. Right place at the right time.
Thank you RJ, yes, I wasn’t looking for this bird, it was all of a sudden right there and very close.
So cute…
They are so colorful, 😊
Yes, they are.
Such clear photos, Sandra. What camera do you use?
Hello Mary and thank you, I use a Nikon D850, probably one of the last DSLR’s being made by Nikon, so many people are changing to mirrorless cameras but I find this one to still take great photos. 🙂
Beautiful photo of a beautiful bird. I have never seen one of these in person, but I would love to!
Yes, I had never even heard of it until I saw this one, when I got back home I had to look it up. 🙂
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you very much 🙂
I’ve never seen one, a beauty 😃😃
Yes they are so colorful. It kept coming back to this one tree that was dripping with sap. Easy to photograph that way.
His little belly isn’t red! Should be called a red crested sap sucker! Lovely as that rose by any name!
Yes, I think the same thing. But it was enjoying the sap dripping out of this tree.
Tis lovely, I say again. All creatures, great and small…
Yes indeed, 😊
Gorgeous photos! And what a cute little bird!
Thank you, it sure is a colorful little bird and it was enjoying the sap dripping out of this tree, a proper name for this one.
Beautiful bird.
It really is, easy to spot in the thick brush with its vibrant red.
It’s so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome, thank you
What a beautiful bird Sandra.
It is and it has a good name because it was enjoying the sap that was dripping out of these trees. 🙂
