Rare Sighting

Rare Sighting

Rare Sighting according to the information on this bird which is called a Bay Breasted Warbler. I spotted this one in Illinois when we stopped at a campground this spring.

This one is very common in the south, The Brown Thrasher, it literally trashes around on the ground foraging for food. Good name on this one. It is a very pretty brown as well.

  1. Good spot. I’ve not seen any rare, or misplaced, birds. At least I’ve not identified any that would be unusual to see in an area. Well done.

    1. And I saw this one in Illinois, there was a storm when we were camping there this spring that forced a lot of birds to land. There were so many birds that next morning.

      1. We had a storm like that this Spring in Central IL. I saw a few I don’t normally, but they are generally in this area. Maybe I have to be more observant the rest of the time.

        1. I was so surprised, I even saw an Indigo Bunting there at Sangris Lake campground. I thought those were only farther south.

          1. Those are common around us. In fact, my latest post on Wildlife Intrigued features one of the many we saw in May at Jubilee State Park.

            1. This was my first year seeing one. We stayed longer down by the coast to see the spring migration. I heard that is where you would see them. Then we saw them at every stop all the way north into your area. Never did see a painted bunting though. 😊

              1. Painted are also around here sometimes, but I haven’t been lucky enough yet.

    1. I have heard of that one and I fellow birder is always telling me about Port Aransas, he goes there almost every year for birding. It is on my list.

      1. Cool! There are two or three wildlife refuges here, but the favorite is the Leona Turnbull Birding Center by the water plant. So many fun free things to do here too!
