Print Your Photos

Print Your Photos

Print Your Photos, as you may realize, I take a lot of photos, I mean a lot. But what do I do with all these photos you might ask. Well, besides sharing them with all of you here on blogging, I do sell photos across the internet on different websites.

Adobe photos is a great place to sell photos and a lot of my art work I create as well. Sometimes the photos go for less then a dollar and sometimes I get surprised when one sells for much more than a dollar. That is part of the fun, seeing the sales pop up.

But I don’t just put photos on the web, I do like to print some of my own to hang on the wall to be enjoyed by us everyday without having to look at the computer.

I print mine at the store called Walgreens, they do a very nice job and pretty cheap, I print some to go in frames but like this one below I printed it to a 30×17 and stuck it to a print board you can buy at any craft store. I hung this one in our RV.

My image sizes to print on average is 5500×3800 pixels with resolution of 300 px. For larger prints I use 6000 x 4145. There is an entire mathematical formula when trying to decide how to print your photos from the web. For example;

How to calculate image size – Quick summary

And that’s really all there is to it! To figure out the image size, just follow these simple steps:

1. Multiply the width and height of the image, in pixels, to get the total pixel count.
2. Multiply the total pixel count by 3 to get the image size in bytes.
3. Divide the number of bytes by 1024 to get the image size in kilobytes.
4. Divide the number of kilobytes by 1024 to get the image size in megabytes.

It can be confusing, but the new cameras take such high quality photos these days. One just has to print some out from what ever camera you have and see what results you get.

If you want to visit my art web page here is the link to that; Sandra J’s Art Collection

So I highly recommend everyone to print some of your own photos if you take them. Why let them just sit on the world wide web. Have fun with your photography.

  1. I’ve never printed my photos before. I had a printer I got for the first laptop and though I could configure it to scan, I could not to print. I’ve not printed anything from this printer – gathering dust in the basement right now, but that’s a great idea having Walgreens print out your digital images and/or mounting them as you did for the RV.

      1. Yes, I have not bought ink since 2009 and it was costly then. You can buy the recycled ink which we tried doing at work for our small printer before we got the printing function on the xerox machine … it tends to leak and make a mess. Good to know if I ever want to print one of mine down the road.

  2. This is so awesome! I love photography, although I mainly use my phone. I have always thought about selling some of my better photos (usually taken on my Canon) but never knew where to start. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thank you, Sandra. I bookmarked this post for future reference. Do you put your images on a memory stick when you get your photos printed? I’ve been thinking about this for a while yet not have had the time to do the research.

    1. Thank you Amy, I do put all my photos on an external memory source. I just would not have enough room on my computer. But for printing for myself, I just send my order over the internet to the Wallgreens store I mentioned and they mail the prints to me. So I don’t go to the store itself. I print most everything in matte finish and they turn out real nice.

      1. Thank you. I’ve yet to venture into printing. I do have a professional printer but due to life getting busy I didn’t use it and hence the ink is now sludge. That will be quite the job to undo. I am on the page …. allowing someone else to do the printing. Your information is truly appreciated!!

          1. I hear you. Those ink cartridges very expensive. And my printer was so complicated, that is mostly why on top of the busyness I stopped using it. I would love some of my prints to be blown up and on my wall. I’ll aim for that goal!!

  4. I know that pictures on computer screen (in RGB) have to be transfered into CMYK for print.
You can do this transformation in Photoshop Menu: go to IMAGE > MODUS > and change RGB color into CMYK color. See also the difference between RGB and CMYK :

  5. Yes that is a great idea Sandra, I have several of mine on the wall as canvas prints, and the ones left over from the art shows that have not sold. My friends sometimes ask if they can have those and are very happy to take them home. The biggest problem is getting the color and tone light enough, as they tend to print darker inks than on the digital screen.

    1. I noticed that as well, that they print darker. We have to accommodate for that which isn’t always easy. This bird photo did pretty well. I have never done an art show, have thought about it. My sales on line have really picked up. It is fun to see that happen.
