Orange is the Color of Autumn

Orange is the Color of Autumn

Orange is the Color of Autumn, this is my first sighting of the Monarch Butterfly this year, it is late in the season, so I am surprised to see it but thankful I got to see at least one this year. Early this spring I saw a few butterfly’s or moths and their wings were pretty scraped up from the long flight up here. But this one looks pretty healthy.

I hope he makes the long journey to its winter home. It is written in their design, from the moment they are alive, to go to the same place, even though some have never been there before. They just know.

      1. Your welcome Sandra – their iridescent colors were stunning. The colors of Summer. Fall has its colors, then Winter – bland, blah and white.

  1. The trek of the Monarch is so amazing. It has been 4 generations since any relation has been to Mexico, yet they know where to go WOW

    1. How nice is that, I don’t see many here in the mid west anymore. But I was sure glad to see this one. πŸ™‚

  2. I love Monarch butterflies and have been to Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula where the West Coast Monarchs overwinter. To go to Mexico to see where the East Coast Monarchs overwinter is on my bucket list. I have read that (if I recall correctly) it takes five generations of Monarchs to make the migration and the ones that over winter are called Methuselahs because they live so much longer than the normal Monarch lifespan.

    1. So very interesting, I did not know this. I would love to see these places as well. I watched a documentary on them many years ago and it was amazing to see what they go through. I know the state of Iowa has made a huge push to plant Milk weeds every where. Out in the country and in wet lands for the Monarchs. That is a good thing to see.

      1. A very good thing. Go Iowa! They are my favorite butterfly. Mary Alice Monroe wrote a fiction book called the Butterfly’s Daughter which includes a lot about the Mexican folk culture about Monarchs. Fascinating read and story.

  3. I’d rather look at an orange butterfly than at an orange leaf. πŸ™‚ Love autumn, but when I think of the upcoming winter, I want summer to last forever. πŸ™‚
