One in Front of the Other

One in Front of the Other

One in Front of the Other – it is easy to photograph pelicans flying in tandem like this. They are the masters of gliding.

I like these photos because of the clouds in the background, makes it look like they are flying above them from this angle.

    1. Thank you Kellye, they are fun birds to photograph because they fly slower then most as they glide a lot.

  1. It’s fun to see such large birds flying so close together. Is there any aerodynamic benefit? Like dolphins riding a bow wave from a boat?

    1. I bet there is, just like geese flying in a v form. They switch leaders now and then according to research I read about that. I ha e seen pelicans in the v forms now and then.

      1. Have you ever noticed that the legs of the “V” are always different lengths, do you know why that is?

    1. It is a challenge to keep up with them with the camera. Amazing how fast they go. Thank you Francine ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. that formation flying is pretty tight!

    1. Thank you very much Rudi, it is a challenge trying to follow pelicans when they are cruising over water. They are so fast.
