Mittens the Squirrel is Back

Mittens the Squirrel is Back

Mittens the Squirrel is Back, now I have one unique squirrel in my back yard that I have mentioned before. Whom I have named Mittens because she has 4 white feet or paws. I took this photo yesterday, I always keep an eye out to see if she returns to the feeder every year. She takes on a darker color during the summer, but when her winter coat fills in she looks so much different.

This is Mittens last winter, all fluffed up with a warm coat on. I have been taking her or his, photo for about 4 years now. It is fun to see her return every year.

This is just another squirrel holding onto the deck with his back feet so as he can get a snack from the feeder.

  1. Mittens is beyond cute – I first discovered your blog because a fellow blogger sent me the link where you featured Mittens in that post. I’ve seen plenty of squirrels, but none with these type of markings. I like all the critters at your feeder – the squirrels and the birds are feasting and grateful for what you have given to them as cold weather settles in … they’ll be back daily now. πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, it is good to see them all back again. And I can enjoy them from the inside as I watch them through the window. πŸ™‚

      1. It’s a win-win situation. They get seeds and you have a front-row seat from inside the warm house. That Mittens is such a cutie … I got some more close-ups of that gray squirrel at the Park. A fellow blogger suggested I name him as he is in so many photos – thinking of calling him “Fluff” and “Puff” for the black one … still thinking of it as they are starting to plump up and have some not only pics where they are cuddly looking but now chunky.

        1. Those are perfect names, yes they sure look different in the summer, I would not recognize Mittens if if were not for those 4 white feet.

          1. They are really starting to plump up … I was looking at some of the photos I took last Saturday one morning this week and I could not believe from the last batch of pictures how much weight they gained. Mittens is so cute with those 4 white feet.

    1. Thank you Don, yes, I only have the one. The rest are just squirrel and when I say just that one word, my dog goes nuts because she knows what that means. πŸ™‚

  2. We used to have a squirrel that came around that had somehow lost its tail. We called him Stumpy. The squirrels don’t come too much because of the dog.

    1. I have seen squirrels like that, or they may have just skinny tails and no fur. There seems to be all sorts of different ones in our backyard. They don’t stick around when I let the dog out, she loves to chase them up the trees. πŸ™‚

        1. eeewwww, no. πŸ™‚ I am sure my folks had us eat those at one time or another, I only like chicken now a days. And no not everything taste like chicken. πŸ™‚ Have a great day Mr. Ohh, you always make me laugh. πŸ™‚

    1. That is so nice, they can be very friendly and they are quite smart as well. Sometimes they appear to be playing on a warm sunny day.

  3. You really document Mittens, Sandra! So nice to see something you can’t see in your own country; those 3 animals I mean. I like the zoom and bokeh effect of your camera and lenses. Great pictures, indeed! GOD bless you and your family!
