Life by the Sea

Life by the Sea

Life by the Sea, there is just so much to see. 🙂

Well, I did collect a few shells this time on the beaches and cleaned them and put them in a nice glass jar so I could see them any time. I had to look up information on how shells are even formed. Fascinating information, they are created by something called mollusks.

As mollusks live their daily lives in the sea, they take in salts and chemicals from the water around them. As they process these materials, they secrete calcium carbonate, which hardens on the outside of their bodies and begins to form a hard outer shell.

The drone happened to catch these big boys swimming around not far from the beach. Another amazing creature of the sea. These are called Cownose Sting Rays

This is what they look like from underneath, I just got this image off of the internet. They look like they are smiling.

Of course I have to put in a photo of my favorite bird down here, just because they are everywhere and so unique looking in their own rights.

  1. Very cool shots of the Sting Rays – you also reminded to add my drone to my packing list when we head back out on our next gulf shores excursion! Thanks again for the YouTube advice.

    1. Yes, drones work so well down there. The beaches are gorgeous from above. You will be there this coming spring? How exciting, we are hoping to be there the next spring. Already booked a spot to camp.

      1. Looks like we are going to be arriving in Dauphin around Easter – the master scheduler is still putting all the plans together – spending early part of April in Florida and then cruising back through the gulf shores area to hopefully catch the migration.

  2. Those sting rays were huge – it is a little creepy the photo you showed us of them from beneath as they do look like they’re smiling. The shells are beautiful and delicate. Your favorite bird showed up just for you.

      1. I’ve seen pictures of them through the years, maybe the old Jacques Cousteau show? I had no idea they were that large, if the drone spotted them from above, they would be huge. And that face!

  3. I love those pelicans, too. Last time we were at the southern CA coastline near Malibu, there were dozens of those interesting birds. God sure proved He has a sense of humor when He created them with those long beaks!
