Ka-ty-did, this is the sound the Katydids make. Katydids are related to crickets and grasshoppers, with large back legs for jumping.

Unlike grasshoppers, Katydids have extremely long, thin antennae. Unlike crickets, their bodies are more rhomboidal, like a kite with four equal lengths. They have wings and will fly away from danger. Most sightings occur when they land on an object and linger. Some have even gone on car rides, clinging to the hood of the vehicle.

I have never see this particular critter before. They blend in so well with leaves. It flew onto the porch, stuck on the wall for a little bit and then was gone. Amazing critters.

  1. I once knew a Katherine who was called Katie, and every time anyone mentioned a Katy-did, she denied having anything to do with it. Whatever they were accusing her of.

    1. That is to funny. And I have never heard of that name before. Someone else mentioned there is a children’s book named that also.

  2. Great pictures but actually Katy didn’t it was all a bunch of lies spread by the mafia years ago but got out of hand

All you need is laughter, John was mistaken

            1. Yes, laughter is always the best medicine, and reading between the lines is a sure fire way to to get the right medicine. 😉

    1. Thank you Linda, I had never seen one of these, it jumped right up on the porch. So I had to grab the camera.

  3. Because of KKKk sound, it reminds me of a song “KKkaty, Beautiful Lady, You’re the only GGGirl that I adore, When mmmoon shines over the cowshed, I’ll be waiting at the KKktichen door.”

  4. Once again, I’m amazed at the clarity of your pictures. And I wonder how you spotted the katydid on the leaf. It seems to blend in perfectly. Wow!

    1. Thank you Jo, actually I have never seen one of these before. It flew up onto my porch when I was sitting there. Amazed at how it looks like a leaf so I had to put it on a leaf to compare. But I did it with the computer, I did not want to touch the little guy. 😊

  5. “Katydids are related to crickets and grasshoppers …”

    … and lettuce. ^.^
