Is it a Mule Deer

Is it a Mule Deer , Well I am not sure now. I thought this first photo was a mule deer because it is so much smaller then the white tailed deer up north and the ears are so huge. Video below or click this Link Here, Mule Deer

As I was researching the difference between the Mule deer and the white tailed deer. It said the ears are placed farther apart on the Mule deer. The two photos below shows the difference in the ears placement.

The left photo is the new deer I photographed and the right photo is a White Tailed deer from up north. I am not sure, but the photo on the right was taken clear up by Lake Superior and the photo on the left was taken near the Mexican border in the south. Almost worlds apart for them.

  1. The ears on the Mule Deer remind me of Dumbo from the Disney movie, but it makes it look inquisitive and gentle looking with those delicate-looking ears as opposed to the other deer you are more used to seeing with the hairy ears.

  2. I just went to a local deer farm where they had a variety of deer like I’d never seen. The Mule Deer were in an enclosure on their own, rather large with some of the deer close enough to touch. Your photo is of a Mule Deer, the face mask along with the large ears are the two striking features that set them apart. Beautiful images, they’re so skiddish, you were fortunate to have captured them.

    1. Thank you very much Laura, that helps. I just wasn’t sure, it has the same marking around the nose and that made me wonder.

    1. ๐Ÿ˜Š, so much fun. Sometimes it is just trying to figure out what I am looking at and then I just figure it is a deer, no matter what name goes with it.
