I just added a short video to todays post. I copied the YT url into the editor box, Then it added the brackets in a box below the link. I saw the brackets, but it would not let me delete them. I will have to try the classic version. I see wordpress has added AI spell check now, it works pretty good.

I am going to try that today for today post, right now actually. 🙂

Good lord. I just re-read my previous reply. Apparently, the comment I left got messed up by the Reader. I wonder if this Jetpack Reader on my phone will mess it up again…

Bless you for tangling with that block editor. I can’t use it. I would go insane.

When I paste YouTube links (classic editor), I have noticed that “short” YT clips only need to be written/pasted as it is…no brackets needed. The word “short” will be part of the URL. When I post a regular link, I use the actual link with [youtube https://blah blah blah] as the link. I hope this helps.

I will try it, yes the videos only work on my actual site, not in reader. I can use both types, I usually use block.

Remove all the spaces except after the one between YouTube & https. Are you in the block editor or classic?
