Good thing that dude was napping. This is a great illustration of βthe sudden shock of awareness.β Your post is also a great lesson of suddenly seeing things hidden in plain sight, if you get my drift…
The Lord was watching over you

Yes He was, it was the first time I have ever seen one as well.

Thanks Sandra. Most of the time we get a warning. Good thing you didnβt pick up a snake to kill a stick.

That is the most clever line I have heard today. That is a good one RJ. π it blended in so well, I did get very close trying to figure out why the rocks looked like they were in a circle and then it moved.

Dangerous… but so beautiful… Thanks Sandra. Have a great evening.

Thank you very much Francine π

What a beautiful creature – I love snakes but have a healthy respect for them.

Yes, that is so nice, we must respect wildlife in all its forms. Even spiders for me. π

Even moths for me – eek!

Okay, wherever this is, I ain’t going. π¬

Yes, they are like little traps set all over the desert.π³

Encounter with the thrill!

Yes it is, π³π

Wow, glad it didnβt bite you!

Yes, I was standing right next to it when I noticed it.

It looks like a Sidewinder. They really blend in.

It surprised me for sure.

Wow, hidden indeed. Iβm impressed you spotted it at all!

I know, I had stopped for a moment to get some water and wasn’t sure what I was looking at first. π

Oh wow! It doesn’t seem little to me π π

It was just a little bigger than my hand. I did not have anything to compare it with. π

This is so creepy. God knows I would have fallen off those rocks if I stepped on thatπ€¦ββοΈ

Yes, it blended in so well, I almost stepped on it.

I would be afraid to venture into this region. I don’t like snakes.

Yes, they recommend waring tall boots if hiking because of the rattlesnakes.

It has such a small rattle!! Are you aware the smol ones are more dangerous because they haven’t learned to conttol their venom?

I had not heard that. I wasn’t even sure this one was alive, so touched it with a long stick and it moved and then I moved .

I had a job here in SoCal with signs posted near the entrance: “BEWARE OF RATTLESNAKES”. I loved telling my agency, located in Boston, about that.

That would be nerve racking having to watch for them. Meaning there must have been lots of them.

There were only 2 in the 2yrs that I worked there, one VERY large. We sometimes had coyotes in the parking lot and I frequently saw dead tarantulas in the outdoor pest traps (pharma, mfg so we had massive amounts of pest control).
A former blogger in AZ would talk about her cat catching scorpions in the house!

Wow, spiders freak me out more than snakes. π¬

Something about tarantulas makes them not so scary to me… dunno if its fascination or the fact that they’re so big.

The camouflage rattlesnakes hide them so well!

Yes, I am surprised I saw it. π
