Group Art Project

Group Art Project

Group Art Project – at a campground we stayed at this winter, one of the local artist ask me if I would help her with a project she wanted to do. Which would involve having a dozen people help with the project. I said sure, sounds like fun.

So, step one. She drew on a piece of paper her idea of a painting she wanted to do. The photo below shows her rough draft of a bridge in the background, some of the local birds, water, sand, sea grass. She asked me if I could put all these items onto a photos that can be printed.

I made the print below. It is just what she was thinking about. I used photos that I had taken and made a composite of all the images into one.

I then applied grid lines to the image and printed a 20×30 copy. She cut the image into the 6×6 squares I made and had the volunteers pick a square, they in turn painted that square onto a 6×6 piece of canvas.

They wanted me to paint one, and I am not a painter at all. So I chose the top left square that only had some clouds in it.

The top left square in this picture below is my attempt to paint the piece I chose. This was actually a very fun project. The idea is that the final art piece will look more like a mosaic piece of art. The teacher of the project said she did not want the painted pieces to be perfect. It was just for fun.

Below is the final piece of art. 24 different people painted the squares. This project is now hanging in the club house at the campground. I am glad I was able to make the template for the project to bring this idea to life.

  1. You are so talented with your photography and your skills in Photoshop. I’m glad you were able to help her out. What a fun collaboration!

  2. This is really great, Sandra. A great idea. I think of many people working together for the Lord in which each one participates in a meaningful way instead of only being observers or spectators. Each does his or her best and enjoys it. One cannot do anything wrong. Each accomplishment as part of the “puzzle”—the community group effort—is perceived as necessary and good. I believe God sees all sincere people who are seeking to do their part well to make the total project a success as equally vital. This particular project turned out great and will hopefully inspire all who see it. Congratulations to all.

And as it turns out, after getting the opportunity, you ARE a painter! Happy travels

    1. So true RJ, there is a lesson to be learned in everything we do. This project was so much fun. Ringing together a variety of people which gave us all an opportunity to meet some new folks as well. Have a wonderful day RJ.

    1. Yes, it is a campground we spend a couple of months at every winter and some of the ladies do art projects, one woman was an art teacher back in the day. So she is the one that wanted to try this paint project. They needed a template and asked me if I could come up with something. They want to do another bird scene next year. It is the snow bird club. ☺️

  3. That is astounding for all the different people that took part! But what a great idea for a future project at my next campground! First off, how did you come up with the original image, a computer generated creation? And then to find 26 talented people to paint each square??? It’s miraculous really!

    1. It was so fun Kim and I love the results. I put the photo print together from different photos I had taken of the area, and I did it all in photoshop. I started with a photo of just the landscape with the bridge in the back at sunset. Then I added the birds by cutting them out of another photo and pasting them onto the landscape photo. I used a dolphin photo I found on the internet and did the same thing. Cut and paste. The photo does not have to be perfect, it is just the template so the folks can use each square as their guide. You will have fun with it. 🙂

Love to Hear from You
