I have seen hay rolls, but this is new for me. The trailers with a cloth lid, leaked a lot more cotton as backroad speeds than these did at interstate speeds. So, it is a marked improvement. “First Bale” was always a prized accomplishment at the gin – front page news in the newspaper. You have brought back many memories. In west Texas, my wife had picked cotton by hand in her youth to make money which she bought candy with it and her little sisters had their fill. I picked a little, but never to get paid, just for the experience.
