Forced Perspective Photography

Forced Perspective Photography

Forced Perspective Photography involves two points of interest , These work together to create an illusion. There would be one subject in the foreground, and another in the background. I have been doing this for a few years now, I just did not know there was a term for it.

For example this first photo is just a tree stump by the water. But, having the camera right next to it makes it actually look bigger than it really is.

The rest of these photos I took at the end of August, there was only the one tree with some color.

I find the color blue is a very relaxing color for me. One of the reasons I am drawn to lakes in the early mornings where the water is reflecting the blue sky’s above. I can spend all day at places like this.

  1. So beautiful 🤩 pics! I loved ur 1st pic the best…. the water and reflection is soo soothing I must say u are a great photographer!!! I specially loved sunset view photos and reflection photos bests.

  2. These are all elegant images, Sandra, with wonderful perspective! I’m always partial to shots with reflections and the tree hanging over the water is a beauty! I do feel I’m standing on the edge of that calm, blue lake — lovely!

    1. Than you so much Ellen, yes I to love being around water for photography. It is like looking into a dream sometimes when the water is so calm.

    1. Yes, I just learned of the term also. I have been taking photos like this for years but did not know they had a name for it. It is fun to do for sure. 🙂

  3. The color is beginning with those pale red hues in the still shots – very pretty, not just the tree but the reflection on that calm water. I watched the video – you really do put a lot of effort into these videos Sandra – very tranquil in the beginning part with the calm water with the deck.

    1. Thank you Linda, it is fun to make the videos. A little extra hobby. There are a lot of good people over there on you tube also, I have learned a lot about photography from you tube actually. So many people sharing tips and tricks about every subject. I like to keep the longer videos over there. The statistics show most people can watch about 2 minutes of a video. So I will just put short ones on word press when I have them. It is fun though.

      1. It sounds fun Sandra – I look forward to retirement and more time to learn new hobbies. I know my posts are often too long and I am thinking that I probably lose a lot of people halfway through.

        1. Your writing keeps people engaged, I read every bit of it, because you write as if I am reading a book that has a story line. A beginning, middle and end. I used to read books years ago and you come across that really good one that you can’t put down, just have to get to the next chapter. You write like that. 🙂

          1. Thank you for saying that Sandra. I think it would be fun to write a book. Or a collection of short stories. One of the bloggers I follow is around my age and lives in California. She and her husband are both retired and she wrote a short story about a month ago. Every day she posted a new chapter. She had never done that before – she does not write very much – maybe every 2-3 weeks. Everyone liked it. If you have a rainy day, here are the parts. The link is here and it is five parts … scroll down to part 1 and then read in reverse order – don’t peek at part 5 or you will know how it ended. My Nick story was pretty long and Monday’s post about the marsh is pretty long too – in fact I left off the butterflies and wildflowers and will do them another day. Thank you again for your compliment Sandra.

  4. a good photograph is layered to draw the eye in. Foreground.mid-ground and of course background. The more attractive each is the better the shot.
The subject matter is the bait to draw the eye in.

    1. Yes, I have been learning more about doing that. I noticed that with your photos. I really like the look of photos taken with a wide angle lens yet focusing on a subject up close. Photography is just so much fun.

      1. There is a caveat with using a wide angle lens . At least with Wildlife photographers Sandra. Wide angles make things look far away as you know. You need to get close to the animal which means you have to know the animal. The caveat is that takes years.

        1. I wish I would have started many years ago, life took me down a lot of paths that tried to distract me from my love of nature. But it was always there in my spirit. It took me awhile to get back to what I love and I will be doing this until I can’t. 🙂 Thank you Wayne.

          1. If you had you would of grown up with film. To use film you have to know what your doing but with digital you don’t. Which explains why so many people are taking pictures these days. Actually the camera is taking the pictures not the people. They point and click.
You have the true spirit of a wildlife photographer Sandra. You always have but life got in the way. Make the most of what time you have.

            1. That is so true Wayne, I have never been so comfortable with where I am in life, as I am right now. I find my peace when I am sitting alone somewhere and completely surrounded by nature and wildlife. And I find my self talking to them more and more as you do. The Egrets are still here on the river, I have a quiet spot I go to. I take my chair and just sit with them and talk and smile. You can’t help but smile when the animals are having fun living life as is intended. Doesn’t get any better than that. 😊

    1. I know, I have been doing it forever and now there is a term for it. It is a wonderful way to see the landscapes a little differently. 🙂

    1. 🙂 I know Eddie, you would love it. So peaceful and the walk through the woods is so refreshing, just hearing the sounds of the water as it flows down hill. Just wonderful Eddie, have a great day. 🙂

    1. I know, there is just something about that color, refreshing like water. Thank you Francine, a wonderful day to you also. 🙂
