First Snow Makes Colors Pop

First Snow Makes Colors Pop

First Snow Makes Colors Pop, yesterday was our first bit of snow. The song birds are back in my back yard. I set my camera up in the back window and just enjoy watching all the beautiful birds coming back to the feeder. Seems like they have been gone for a few weeks lately.

This is the last of my carrot plants in my garden. Gently holding up the snow on their leaves.

I went for a walk down to the lagoon, as the snow was sticking to all the leaves making the green colors look even more vibrant.

And across the pond there was one red tree left that had not dropped its leaves. There was not a lot of color around my area this year. And there are still a lot of leaves that are still green, so they will be falling off the trees after tonight’s freezing weather I suspect.

    1. Yes, everything is good here Lisa, no one has been sick, and the weather is good. Sounds like you had an ok, vacation. But it still sounded like a nice break.

  1. Snow already! No snow here yet but the Upper Peninsula had 8+ inches last weekend. I am surprised the delicate carrot leaves can prop up the snow – I know it’s not a lot of snow but they are so delicate and lacy looking. That tree is beautiful and the red against the yellow is stunning. My neighbor used to have two pear trees on her City property – they dropped their leaves long after the maples and oaks – it was not unusual that they lost their leaves in December, after the final yard waste pickup on November 30th. If we had snow first, the burgundy leaves would be all over the snow like polka dots.

    1. Yes, it was so pretty, it was gone by late afternoon. I like that kind of snow, only stays around for a couple hours. πŸ™‚

      1. My kind of snow too – they say our Sunday will be ugly … it will start out raining, go from 40 degrees to 30 degrees in a short time, 30 mph winds, then light snow which will not last either. The same forecast for Monday, minus snow. A week ago tomorrow we had 78 degrees!

  2. Great pictures. Two (three?) seasons at once. I especially like the green and white together, the vestiges of summer, autumn leaves, and winter’s soon arrival. One season blends into the next. I imagine your birds and critters will appreciate the free food and hang around a lot for future photo shoots. Looking forward to your winter renderings. Thanks Sandra. Be Blessed.

    1. Thank you RJ, I love when the seasons overlap and you can see them in one moment of time. What a wonderful gift it is to be a part of that. I have been feeding wildlife since I was a child when my Grandfather made me my first bird feeder. Since then I have discovered so many different species of birds. Even now, I get excited when I see the birds come back to my feeders this time of year. Thank you RJ for your wonderful words and blessings to you as well.

    1. You are so welcome, I am glad you like them. Snow has a way of bringing even more color to our surroundings. Have a wonderful day. πŸ™‚

      1. Gosh….it sure does! And that is something we only experience here every 20 years or so?!! 🀣 And Thank You! I hope You have a wonderful day as well! πŸ’–

  3. First snow?! OMG! Brrr… But the pictures are marvelous! My fave is the third one with the leaves like little green trays carrying white snow.

      1. I don’t. πŸ™ But yet again snow on asphalt is way different than snow on the forest floor. πŸ™‚

        1. I know what you mean Jo, I am back in town right now and the snow is pretty for a few hours but then everything turns brown from the cars driving and all. πŸ™‚

  4. Gorgeous pictures. I’m still enjoying fall and do not mind waiting for winter awhile longer. It will get to Central Virginia, eventually–it always does.

  5. I am so jealous!!!! We are usually late getting the first snow in SW PA. I saw pictures of Forth Worth, Texas covered in snow yesterday. Not a flake in Pittsburgh. I even wore my snow socks (gray socks with white snowflakes) on Sunday as an attempt to “test fate”. Nope. But Friday, the high is supposed to be 45… Maybe soon.

    1. It is good to hear another person who gets excited about the first snows. It is like being a child again. I always love the first signs of winter. And I get excited when the snow melts and I can get my bike out again. It’s the little things.😊

      1. Oops. Sometimes the weather channel uses old footage. There are presently having ice storms in OKC, but the footage that said Ft. Worth showed a dusting, maybe it was from last year when several Texas cities got inches of snow before the NE USA got any.

  6. OOOO you captured a Red-Belly Woodpecker! Gorgeous!! And I LOVE the way you edited your pictures, Sandra! You inspire me to keep finding beauty this coming Winter. Thank YOU! xo

    1. Thank you so much Amy, yes I have not seen this bird for a couple of months and all of a sudden he was at my feeder yesterday. So I did get quit a few shots. They are so pretty. Seems like the first snows always make everything else look so bright. I love that. Have a great day Amy.

      1. I get them at my feeder in the Winter too, Sandra. In fact, I’ve already seen one looking for insects on our barn. He’ll be back. They are such pretty birds!

  7. This is the first snow I remember having leaves still waiting to fall. It’s like confetti having the leaves scattered across the frosting of first winter.
