First Ship View
First Ship View – before we head to the Soo Locks, we went down river to a little park I found on the map where the ships go by on the way to the locks.
There is a great app called Vessel Finder, that shows most all ships and boats any where you want to look. So I pulled up the app and it showed this ship was about to be at this small park.
We went down there and here it was passing by. Love this app. It usually gives the name of the ship, how big it is and where it is headed.
This one is named the Erie Trader. My neighbors brother lives on the other side of the bay right by the water. He says the earth shakes a bit when these ships go by his yard.

Sprunki Game truly elevates the Incredibox experience with its rich sound library and creative freedom. As a music lover, it’s inspiring to see how it blends accessibility with depth-check it out at Sprunki Game!
It’s so amazing to me that anything this large is able to float. Great photos!
I think that as well Diana. Amazing to see them that close.
That was interesting Sandra – I remember the “Erie Trader” as it was one of the fleet of our long-standing client whom we did labor-related legal work for. The company used to be based in Escanaba, but are now based in Ohio, though they may still have offices there in Escanaba as well. I may have known about Vessel Finder, unless there is another site to find freighter’s whereabouts on their passages. I have looked on there when I got home if I saw a freighter down at the riverfront and the vessel was too far to read the name of it and I wanted to know the name for my blogpost. I have also gone on the Boat Nerd site as well.
I bet there are a few sites to find boats. Kind of fun to have when you do see a ship and can see more information about it.
My boss used to order the “Know Your Ships” handbook every year, especially when he took his annual freighter trip with his friend. We had several clients that had a fleet of freighters and tug barges. One of the clients, before he sold the company, allowed my boss and a friend to go on a freighter trip every Summer, usually 5-7 days. So he had the book to identify the other freighter/tug barge lines by their smokestack(s).
Have a great weekend
Thank you, you to 🙂

Ships are majestic in their appearance.
That one seems rather wider than usual.
