Eagles in the Corn Fields

Eagles in the Corn Fields

Eagles in the Corn Fields , this is a new sight for me to see eagles in a corn field after harvest. I have only seen eagles by water or where we live, if there is a carcass in the ditch, you will sometimes see an eagle there as well.

This field had about 12 eagles on it, but this one below was the closest one. Amazing birds.

  1. I would not have expected to see bald eagles in a corn field. Maybe like deer, the corn is a quick sweet treat that fills them up.

  2. These are great photos Sandra. The eagle must have felt secure there were no predators around to go to the ground knowing it might not go airborne as easily as it would sitting on a perch. Your lucky day!

    1. How wonderful, they seem to be plentiful in the Midwest again. Especially to see them away from water. They are my favorite bird and then the white pelican. Both have magnificent wing spans.

  3. We see all kinds of predators coming to the fields in the harvest as the cover for lots of mice, gophers and rabbits is gone and they are easy prey. Coyotes always come as well.

  4. We see them in northern Kossuth County just south of Bancroft, IA, on US Hwy. 169 ALL the time. They are in the second field on the east side of the road just south of the East Fork of the Upper Des Moines River. They are there as well as crows, turkey vultures, black birds, startlings, sparrows, and other birds. We could learn A LOT from those birds as to how to GET ALONG and exist together PEACEFULLY WITHOUT CONFLICT….. Welp’s Chicken Hatchery in Bancroft, IA, spreads their ground up male birds in that field year round. We especially enjoy watching the bald eagles during the fall, winter, and early spring. Off in the distance, you can also see a huge eagle’s nest once the leaves fall from the trees. It is a definite MUST SEE !!!

    1. Wow, I would love to see that. I was so surprised to see these here. I used to live along the Mississippi river in the quad cities and I would see lots of eagles near the lock and dams. But this is a first to see them just standing in the corn fields. 🙂

    1. Very welcome RJ, it was a surprise to see them. We were just out for a drive and came up over a hill and there they were. A beautiful sight 🙂
