Days Are Getting Shorter

Days Are Getting Shorter – As I sit at my computer on this serene early morning, I watch the daylight gradually stretch its arrival, casting a gentle glow through my window. I wait patiently, eager to see the birds make their appearance at the feeders.

The blue jays have arrived, bringing their young along to learn the art of foraging. The fledglings, fluttering around with eagerness, receive gentle guidance from their parents as they practice eating on their own.

I have been taking photos of these colorful birds, trying to get shots of them in flights to see their colorful feathers.

Days Are Getting Shorter

As most of you have probably heard, AI is here to stay and it is making an impact on our photography world as well.

Yes, I have been dabbling into the art of AI with my photos as I have extra time these days. Exploring this new technology to make greeting cards for the upcoming seasons apon us.

I only use photoshop and they have incorporated a new AI into its program this month. I quite enjoy using it and creating art by using my photos as the generative reference images.

I have two samples below showing the difference between using your own reference photos and using text to image program.

This first photo below I used my blue jay photos to make this wintery greeting card. It does pretty well I think. I also list on all of my work when it is AI generated or not and how I made the piece.

Now this print below is using the text to image system. Where you describe what you want the photo to look like. I do not prefer this type of imagery. But I can see where some folks might like to use this, for creating children’s books or something like that.

There is a place for art using this new technology I believe, it does not replace photography at all, but it is definitely here to stay and being used throughout industries of all kinds, from advertising to creating movies.

Right now I can still tell the difference between AI and Real, but that may change as the software keeps improving.

I believe there will always be a place for genuine photographs because computers can’t replicate the human touch. While technology can imitate creativity, it can never replace the authentic essence of human expression.

  1. Hello Neat post Theres an issue together with your site in internet explorer would check this IE still is the marketplace chief and a large element of other folks will leave out your magnificent writing due to this problem

  2. I think the AI path is a slippery slope. I can see its benefits, but also know there are far more downsides. I envision a state where you never know what is true or made up unless you see it with your own eyes and even that will be manipulated as well. We will see as it’s a powerful training coming down the tracks, glad I don’t work in the photo-journalism world.

  3. Seems like AI is just the next iteration in the pursuit of the perfect pic:
    – 35mm: never know what you got till it’s developed
    – digital point and shoot: see result right away but optics limited
    – DSLR: good optics, better results
    – Phones: I find my phone beats my DSLR in everything except telephoto, high speed and long exposure
    – AI: still a few tell-tale giveaways
    – Future AI: ???

There’s something to be said for being old-school purist 😎😂

    1. Thank you Darryl, yes, I agree. I know the new phones coming out look like they are going to be quite impressive with the cameras. I have an android and the photos can compare to my DSLR at the moment. I am sure that will change soon. I do take some photos with it, but not for selling. The quality is not there yet. 😉

  4. I like your two photos best Sandra – the Blue Jay is realistic, whereas the other pictures, the setting and birds are too perfect, even the water droplet is not realistic, being a blue droplet. Real imagery versus AI is perfect and I don’t believe they have perfected AI yet.

  5. The pictures are nice, especially the flying bird. But I’m not a fan of AI in any way. Yes it is here to stay, but as you said It can’t replace human creativity. I myself have looked at it and it destroys my writing by overshadowing my sac=rcastic voice and tries to bribg everything to a logical conclusion. I trie to leave them laughing. Logic is overated. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Yes, I agree, and I can still pick out SI photos on the web, but I have a feeling one day it will be harder to distinguish between reality and AI, except that they are making things to perfect in the AI world. That is a giveaway right there.

  6. I read that one of the new AI image generators is really good at hands, which used to be the tell-tale of AI generation.

I like using a combo of source image and text, but I really don’t generate much.
