Columbus Mississippi
Columbus Mississippi – One of the first things I do when I get to a new town that we are camping near, is to look up what there is to see in each town. Columbus has a lot of history and very unique homes, or should I say mansions.
I always check out google maps for historic areas of a town. The first thing that showed up was this old diesel locomotive. The actual first diesel locomotive, it ran for 38 years and retired in 1984. I do love trains and learning about them. They changed
From their start in England in 1830, railroads spread like kudzu across the globe. They unified countries, created great fortunes, enabled the growth of new industries, and thoroughly revolutionized life in every place they ran.
It is nice when they put signs up explaining what we are looking at. I will have more of my favorite trains on tomorrows post.

How fun! I do find that historic areas in a particular city tend to have a slightly unsafe fringe at varying blocks away.
Yes, we went in a couple neighborhoods that were pretty run down, and then it is the giant historical homes and then the new shopping areas. I like the historic areas much better.
That’s a nice close-up of the informational sign to read about this train and the train. I like trains too Sandra. At Heritage Park they have an old caboose and a boxcar. I have taken many photos of them over the years.
I do love seeing stuff like this. Especially something that was the first ever made.
Yes, learning history this way is much more fun than learning by a textbook.
Wonderful ! I love old trains too !
Thank you, Sandra ! 🚃🚃🧡🙏
My husband and I would like to take a train trip, a long one to experience all there is train trips. We live in northern Mn. so we thought about going through Montana and the get on what ever train goes through Canada and some of Alaska. We both t hink it would be relaxing and a calm way to see sights with the fuss of driving ourselves. You post has challenged me to check out a travel agency for a trip like that. Desire to do that is there but money may not be. But if God would see to bless us with cheap tickets and then hop on we will while my health is doing good.
I love old trains also, Sandra. Thanks for the ride.
You are very welcome, have you heard of the train named Big Boy 4014? It is touring the states again this summer. I sure would like to see that one.
