Blues Musicians

Blues Musicians playing in Catfish Alley, Columbus Ms. I don’t know a lot about blues music. I never listened to it much. But I have to say these bands were very good, it was a treat to sit and enjoy the talents of these musicians.

  1. That was an unexpected treat for you to hear them. I liked seeing the guy with the harmonica. Years ago in the Downtown Detroit Business District there used to be a street they closed off except for the trolley car and every Summer on Wednesdays, there were free blues bands playing in the lunch hour. People would bring their lunch and listen to them. It was fun. I went once to a famous blues coffee house called The Raven Gallery – it was well known, but closed now.

  2. When I was a kid, I was crazy about music and still am today. For a young person, I knew a lot about the stars of early rock and roll like Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. One day I was having a conversation with an adult who was a friend of my mother’s and he said, “That stuff is good, but just wait til you get to the blues!” I was mystified and said that I certainly had no interest in moving on from my then idols. He laughed, and said, “Oh yes you will! Just give it a couple more years, when you can appreciate it.” He was absolutely right. Once I found the blues, I’ve just kept going deeper and even into jazz territory. Bands like Thin Lizzy, AC-DC, and Lynyrd Skynyrd were all blues derivative, but once I reached the source and heard records by Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, I was hooked. All the back into old 78s by Lonnie Johnson and Charlie Patton. But then in the modern day there were a lot of people still playing the real thing, like the late R.L. Burnside and the people you saw which is a great thing indeed. It’s music that truly connects with one’s soul which is why it makes you feel so good.

    1. So very true, I was the same way. I still love ACDC and definitely Leonard Skinner, but this is the first time I sat and listened to entire songs from these musicians. Even when they did not sing, the music alone made one smile.

    1. Yes, we got there at the right time. I have not seen live street music in so many years. I really enjoyed it. They were all so good.

  3. Because of my hearing problems I do not listen to music anymore.
But I do like the Blues.
Especially African Blues I used to listen.

    Kind regards

Love to Hear from You
