Birding Adventures

Birding Adventures, one of my goals for this year is to get a really nice photo of the King Fisher Bird. In my area there is the Belted King Fisher. I know where this one below hangs out, I just have to get there early enough and sit patiently waiting for it to land in a nice sunny spot.

I was able to capture this photo as the king fisher was hovering over water looking for some food down below. It was quite far away and the sun caught its wing a bit, but the head was still in the shadows. I will keep working on it and let you know when I finally get that shot I am looking for.

I see these red berries everywhere this time of year, I am not sure what they are or if a bird even eats them. But they add a nice contrasting color to the winter browns.

  1. I am sure you will be successful in your birding goal, patience, perseverance and most important.. a bird that understands how to position itself to take advantage of good light ha!

  2. Great shots! I remember the first photo I got of a kingfisher hovering! I forget which kingfisher it was, but it was taken in Southern Bangladesh!

  3. Well look at your Kingfisher and mine Sandra – I probably should not have included that tiny picture, but I was excited to see it. I could not tell it was a male or female as I couldn’t see its chest as it was perched the opposite way from me. They are unique looking though. The berries are bright and do brighten up Winter’s drabness.

    1. It is hard to get a good photo of them. They fly away so fast. I know where this one hangs out so maybe I will see it again.

  4. Awesome pictures, Sandra. Thanks. Love the color you captured in that little blue guy. The plant may be a Winterberry Holly. Birds love ‘em.

    1. Thank you RJ, I see those red berries every where. I plant bushes up at our cabin with birds and butterfly in mind. Things that will have food on them just for the animals.

  5. Wow, good luck on the kingfisher. They are unpredictable and fast. Those red berries look a lot like our high bush cranberry but they hang a little different.
