I’m sorry for your loss and the portrait you did of Chloee is so beautiful Sandra. I see her ears perking up here – so attentive to you. Likewise in the other portraits you created and sent to the owners, who are no doubt very grateful to have the professional portraits of their beloved pets. That is very sad about the horse, such an unexpected accident. The poor horse and the poor young woman who found herself suddenly mourning the loss of her horse from such an unforeseen and unfortunate accident. The last time I rode a horse, I was with friends. My friend and her sister and her sister’s friend. My friend was the only one who had never been horseback riding and was very timid about going. She was given a very patient horse for her first time, but it went too close to my horse, a larger and more spirited horse and it reared up and kicked my friend in the shin. We rushed to emergency but it was nothing more than a large bruise, luckily no breaks. So, like your friend’s horse – a very unexpected circumstance, only more traumatic since her horse sustained fatal injuries.

Our little ones certainly leave a memory. You have expressed very well here the sentiment of loss but also the many warm memories that will never fade. Many years ago at Christmas a family member gave several of us a book regarding the fairly recent losses of family dogs and as a memorial for other past losses. It is called “Dog Heaven” by Cynthia Rylant (1995) and includes full page paintings and verse. An excerpt:

“When dogs go to heaven
They don’t need wings
Because God knows that
Dogs love running best.
He gives them fields. Fields and fields and fields.”

I am very sorry for your loss. I can relate. You’ve done a great thing here for your friends. Excellent work my friend.
